Haren has been consistly given up 3er a game via hr lately hopefully he can minimize the long ball tonight.
Dodgers have had  weak competition lately this month, need minimum of 2/3 or sweep.
Puig and agon due for homers.

Hopefully he limits his homeruns tonight, and at least waits until the national anthem is totally over before he surrenders one. Oh wait, the Padres bat last, so they will not still be playing it when he gives up the first bomb. Two more homers tonight, and he definitely goes to the homerun derby. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin Let's go Dodgers; score at least five tonight. We may need it.

So predictably sad that it is almost funny. First inning and there she goes; yet another homerun given up by Haren.

Re: Dodgers @ Padres (6/20 - 6/22/2014)

  • Hanley Ramirez‘s poor glove is perhaps the main reason that he and the Dodgers have yet to agree to an extension, Rosenthal writes. He wonders how much that flaw will impact Ramirez’s value on the open market at a time when teams are placing a higher premium than ever before on defense. He adds that if Ramirez does stay in L.A. and shift to third base in the long-term on his next contract, the team may have to trade Juan Uribe and his $6.5MM 2015 salary.
  • Looking at other Dodgers issues, Rosenthal writes that many executives around the league expect that it will ultimately be Matt Kemp who is traded to clear the team’s outfield logjam, though it likely won’t happen until the offseason. He adds that the Dodgers are likely to be in the market for a starting pitcher after the news that Chad Billingsley is out for the season, as Josh Beckett and Dan Haren are tough to rely on down the stretch.

Yep. Other than the lack of funds, or poor assessment, that other pitcher would not have been needed because we would still have Kershaw, Greinke, Ryu, Tanaka, and would not have needed either Haren or Beckett in the rotation as the season started. Obviously, right now, the right choice would have been Beckett instead of Homerun Haren.

Yes; we have a closer with an ERA close to five and looking more and more like Broxton before he left. But it didn't help that Homerun Haren gave up another two bombs in less than six innings.

Re: Dodgers @ Padres (6/20 - 6/22/2014)

SP is not issue which you folks seems to continue to harp on but miss point
#1 issue from getgo has been bully  and still is today..

Jansen has NEVER been right this yr.. and if we had decent SU (which we have not had for months) he would be demoted.
Haren is better than any other teams #5Sp so what is the big deal?? His ERA is 3.6 s expected.

You can't go far w/o good bully which we still do not have and will not have this yr.So playoff success is out til colletti gets act together.

Jansens stats for june..ERA of 8.0 and last 10 outings 5.4.
His control has improved since he dropped his mph down now he is 3.5 W/9ip..OK for him
He is getting K's as Krate is solid at 14K/9ip but what is missing is he is hitting too many bats and since he is extreme fly ball guy giving up too many line drives (50% more) and HR (+30%) and hits.
He used to give up 1 ht every other inning now he gives up at least 1 hit /inning.

His cutter -bread and butter..which he throws 83% of time...batters hit .150 against it last 3 yrs..this yr...319!!noidea and has pitch now has -2.5 value vs +20!!

Jansen is in trouble....it appears his command still is not there, his ball is moving better at lower mph but he is still not locating it-too high in zone and batters are hitting it..2x more line drives.

I have hope for him cuz his stuff is still good ..hopefully command will come back more --our season rides on him and
NEW SU..
we have none and Colletti needs to get his act together fast to get one..
Our bully has lost 15 games for us this yr..Jansen only 3 and could have easily have 6 if he were not lucky at times.
Bully WAR..negative guys...Jansen -.2; Wilson -.5, Maholm-.6, perez-.4,
positive guys...League+..8,howell+..9, wright-+.6

Time to pull trigger on maholm and perez and get that need LHP power pitcher in here Colletti
Every week he waits we lose about 1 game /wk due to bully.

I, and I believe others, do, in fact, get the point you are making. I have indicated all along that our bullpen is a huge problem, as well as Mattingly's continual mismanagement of it. I also indicated that we have choke hitters that are near or at the bottom of baseball in average with RISP. We also have terrible defense, which has cost us some games. I even said that, unless changes are made, this team, as is may finish slightly above .500.

Dave brought the discussion back to Tanaka and now that it was reported that the Dodgers may be looking for starting pitching, some of us were simply having a side discussion about how that would not be even an issue if Tanaka were on the team. Starting pitching has been one of our strong points, but, knowing Colletti, he may just deal away prospects to address an area that is not the problem. I, for one, usually agree with your assessments, as I do now.

Re: Dodgers @ Padres (6/20 - 6/22/2014)

Well there is no doubt our hitters have not done the job. But there hope for them based on history. Partof issue on RISP is etheir, kemp, agon and hram have .250-270 Bave so their RISP will be low on that basis alone.

The bully on the other hand ,history would say...
Perez, maholm are toast and should be gone..wilson later if he can't cut before we have to have him next yr..
Easier to replace RP then trade hitters..

Today we could bring up CReed as LR guy and replace/trade dfa... maholm and that would be upgrade..and Reed would give more lHP Bully which we need.  The more experience he gets he become BU SP...Colletti doesn't not need to do anything but that and we are better. The Reed in bully eliminates the need for another stupid SP BU deal discussed.

Obviously next step is Ethier and OF we do not need that many OF even if Puig is out for a week, we have JOc in reserve and SVS playing well.
There are many teams looking for OF help and swapping SU for Ethier and $$ is a no brainer. Soon some team will be out of contention so you do not want to wait too long. And Colorado has excess OF and needs SP.
Colletti needs to accept responsiblity for his failure of bully and get moving on to help team..now before ASG.

Putting aside the RISP issue..whihchas contributed..

Bully #1 season we are not in first place
#2 is defense..
top 2 if corrected we'd bein 1st place by a few games..
#3 is Colletti not correcting Bully and 4 OF issue plugging holes ASAP vs a snails pace.
#4 is mattingly lack of good mgr skill.

Sheesh I see the complainers are in force even though the Dodgers were a few ridiculous defensive plays off another 3 runs.

It was not a close game in general performance and Jansen just had a brain fart.

I would point out it was a great example of why closers stink, since he should have put a different reliever in.

Re: Dodgers @ Padres (6/20 - 6/22/2014)

Take this for what it is, BUT, our closer has an ERA in the mid 4's I believe and that is completely unacceptable for a guy who has only a 1-3 run lead!!! He has no room for error. I was at the game last night and the PADS are a terrible hitting squad and they DID NOT MISS a beat with 5.00 Wilson and Jensen. Our two end guys have terrible ERA's...this is not needing a pacifier because we complain, this is a FACT and it is killing us.

I also question dunno baseball. Last night, Donnie has a lefty and wilson warming up for the 8th. So the first two batters are lefty dodger killer seth smith and Alonso who is a lefty...so let's play matchups right? NAAHHHHHHHHH, he sits the lefty down and Smith crushes a double and then we get bat shat lucky that a line shot was caught. Wilson might not have given up a run, but his outs were hard and he fools no one! Donnie needs to play match ups, this is not THE AL DUNNO baseball!!!

Timely hitting killed us again as that game coulda been a blow out.

Finally, I love Dre's efforts but I had a great view of both balls he coulda caught, as a good CF woulda had those balls!!!

Finally part two, the Pads have the second best bully ERA in baseball! So what is our excuse???

Great to see Beckett come back strong. He is pitching lights out when there is a defense behind him.
