Re: Rockies @ Dodgers (6/16 - 6/18/2014)

Uh oh, the team that was able to dominate the "mighty" Giants is now coming to town with three pitchers, one new, one terrible, and one mediocre against Ryu, Kershaw, and Greinke. This could be a sweep, but yet to be determined by which team. My how I would hope it would be the Dodgers, but to do so they would actually have to get some hits. It may be time to bring in some youth (e.g. Pederson) to show some of our starters how to use a bat. C'mon guys, there is still time to right this ship. Thanks to the Rockies for keeping us still in it, even though our guys are doing their best to fall out. I love the Dodgers and would love for them to ship all but a few players to find a new beach to lounge on.

Our success tonight also depends on which Ryu shows up against the Rockies; the one that pitched at Coors Field and dominated them, giving up just two runs in six innings while picking up a win; or, the one that got smacked around, giving up six runs, five earned, and lasting only five innings for the loss at Dodger Stadium. We are home, but let's hope hit pitches like he did against them at their place. Go Dodgers! It's time to start winning in our own park.noidea

It could be the Ryu that gives up 4 runs, 3 earned, in 5.2 innings. You never know with these pitchers with multiple personalities.

I realize he hasn't had a lot of at bats and the position in which he hits but AJ has a .414 OBP. Just for the fun of it, Dee bat 7th when everyone except Beckett on the mound, pitcher 8th, Ellis 9th. Just a crazy idea ;) you can change it to the pitcher 9 too.

The first Ryu showed up. Great job! With Greinke and Kershaw going the next two games, one would think a sweep of the Rockies is now looking probable, but you never know. Let's go guys. Like I said a few days ago, the Giants can be had.

Nice win for the Dodgers; got some power. Greinke grinded out a tough one, even though he hasn't been his dominant self over his last four starts. I am a little concerned there and have been since he supposedly changed his delivery.

As far as Hanley is concerned, it is evident why the Dodgers have not yet decided on a contract extension. They have to decide whether to let him walk or pay pretty big money to what amounts to a part time player.

What is becoming evident is that Hanley does not belong at SS anymore. He simply misread the ball. He should realize that his best chances of staying on the field lies at 3base and possibly in the OF. The Nationals recently moved Zimmerman to LF and Hanley may need to do the same thing longterm.

The Dodgers should move Hanley to 3base and take the rest of the season to weigh whether he will be a viable option at 3base.

Go Dodgers!

On the surface, that seems like sound advice, but we all saw what happened in Florida when they moved him to third base. Sadly, I think management is catering to him so that he doesn't start throwing more temper tantrums  and thereby disrupt the chemistry of the team big time. He was as happy as could be last season when he was able to go back to being a shortstop, and was definitely the Dodgers' MVP. This year, some of that new team excitement and drive seem to have worn off, and he is back to being frail and, thereby, being a part time player. I hope he turns it around, but I think the Dodgers may be considering moving on.

Glad to see you bring up the outfield, because I think the concept people push regarding Hanley as a 3b is ridiculous.

You do not make a bad defender a good defender by putting them at a position fans interpret as 'lower.'

1b is the most important defensive position other than the battery, but is possible for a large variety of physical builds.

This sounds strange.  You can make a bad defender tolerable by moving them down the defensive spectrum which has been shown time and time again for 130 years of baseball.  And 1B is the most important?  That's a head scratcher.  SS is clearly at the top of the spectrum with 2B and 3B about equal for next.  CF then RF would follow, with LF and 1B at the bottom.  It's why countless veterans end up at 1B as their careers wind down.  I don't believe there has ever been a first baseman that ended up a shortstop in the history of the game which would be the case if 1B were the most important.

I don't think Hanley would necessarily be a good 3B, but he would probably do less damage there than at SS.  There is obviously not a spot for him anywhere else on our team.

Just the facts.
