Is the team even in the dugout? Is there a hot tub in center with starting lineup in it?

I'm thanking Ned for putting this team together.  The big trade last year that not everybody bought into but has paid dividends.  Punto included.  The trade that brought Hanley Ramirez which may be the biggest one of them all.  Grienke, Ryu, Schumacher.  Picking up Nolasco, Marmol, Volquez, Wilson and Young. which all have contributed to the success of this club. And lets no forget the international signing of Yasiel Puig.  I always said I wanted to see what Ned could do if he had some money to play with.  Thank You Ned!!!

A great outing for Kershaw last night; he got a great seven innings in and was able to leave the game with a lead. At least he got a real lineup to support him, also. I am fine with the night before, but I just don't remember ever seeing anyone using an all minor league/scrub team in that situation; good for us, but a disservice to the fans who paid their hard earned money to possibly take their kids to their first game of the year or ever; especially if they were Dodger fans, and they had to watch inferior players playing to an expected loss.

On another point, I wonder if  Donnie BB has given up on home field advantage for the playoffs, from which we are only two games out, giving away a game to one of the worst teams in baseball. That advantage could be huge in a short series; just a thought.

An obvious question and Mattingly, surely more than anyone, has wrestled with. Apparently, he's decided it's better his team be rested and more healthy going into the playoffs than to have HFA. Of course, that can be argued, especially by those who question everything he does anyway. The first game of this series with the Padres was following a big celebration in Arizona. He's there, so just have to trust he knows what's best for his players. I know no manager is going to make the decision based on what's more entertaining for the people coming to the game.

The rest of the way, Mattingly will probably just try to keep (or get) the team sharp. Attaining home field against the Braves or Cards isn't in the Dodgers hands. They still have to rely on those teams losing games to catch them. If Mattingly pushed the team here at the end, and any of the regulars got injured, or further aggravated injuries they have, or were more tired, we can be sure people would point to that as the reason for coming up short in the playoffs. Being able to blame it on having to play on the road, armchair managers are set either way.

Re: Dodgers @ Padres 9/20 - 9/22

He has already stated health is a priority, not home field. The Dodgers have the best away record in the NL, which is the only place they could have home field advantage. That being said, I am sure he will try to make a balance between rest and keeping them sharp. If they get to the series, an American League lineup is available with one of the outfield DH. Grienke can also pinch hit if needed, Kershaw pinch run....

Re: Dodgers @ Padres 9/20 - 9/22

After watching the 1st inning, if I'd missed the rest of the game, no surprise seeing it ended 1-0. Some good pitching.

Greinke stays sharp, but isn't worked hard. Shows how Mattingly can use the depth this team has, today the bullpen, to get a win. The key was Withrow's 6 outs. If he gives up any runs at all, and the Dodgers lose, no matter how it happened, then Mattingly's an idiot, and Withrow's a bum. Today it worked out nicely for win #90. :)

Re: Dodgers @ Padres 9/20 - 9/22

Has anybody noticed that one of the two positions that is not well settled upon the Los Angeles Dodgers is third base, despite the 'good play' from Uribe, (34 years old and $7.3 M salary) this year and now Michael Young (36 years old and $13 M salary).  I will not believe that this will continue.  Josh Donaldson of the Oakland Athletic's ($0.5 M salary) is going to be a very hot commodity very soon.  (Catcher is the other position.)

Michael Young was for 2013 only, correct?  Uribe finally has had a good year at part time play, but Donaldson is too good to be true.  Let us see how far the Athletics go in the play-offs with this guy and the rest of their motivated players.
