Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

Although still on the road, the Dodgers have a chance to make additional hay in their quest for the division lead. Toronto has lost four games in a row, and so has their starter for tonight, Josh Johnson. Although Johnson has a career winning record against the Dodgers at 3-2, he has been getting banged around lately, especially in his last start which was against the Orioles in which he gave up seven runs over six innings. He currently is 1-5 with a 5.16/1.49/.276 slash line, well below his career numbers of 3.29/1.25/.245.

Hey, how about tonight we start another road sweep and overtake the Diamondbacks, with Garza and the Cubs beating them, before Garza possibly comes over to be a Dodger? You never know. winkwink

Dodgers will play shorthanded with Kemp not available.  Mattingly is saying Kemp won't be available for this series.  Seems to me you put Kemp back on the DL and let him continue to strengthen his shoulder while letting his hammy and ankle fully heal.  It's just stupid to go into a series in an American League park a player short.  Playing Kemp too soon is just going to end up in another injury.  It has to be frustrating for everyone but the smart thing is don't push it.

He could pinch hit in a crucial ab.

Kemp has become such an injury prone player that at this point it's a surprise when he's actually in the lineup. The default setting for this team now is Kemp being injured. Signing that extension a few months before his body started breaking down was an enormously lucky break for him and an unlucky one for the dodgers. What an albatross he has become.

Kemp's body did not break down ....he hit a wall in colorado ..maybe you forgot??
Shoulder surgery takes time to heal..one yr.
Kemp had hammy earlier...common with big ,fast guys..
his ankle injury is a fluke..
Before shoulder injury he was hitting fine..
maybe you forgot he hit 12 hrs in april last yr???

Re: Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

I agree that Kemp should just be put back on the DL.

I also agree that Kemp's injuries were more fluke than chronic issues.

I fully expect Kemp to be beast mode in 2014.

As for this year, he does not need to be favoring anything when he plays his next game.  The Dodgers can continue without him for another two weeks...  They will not fall out of the race and having him for August, September, and hopefully October is of the utmost importance...

I guess he should have been taking what Braun was!

Players hit walls every day and then get up and continue playing.
Every time Kemp is asked about the shoulder he says everything is fine.
Kemp is not a fast guy anymore. He gave up stealing bases a long time ago.
An injury being a fluke is an excuse given for every injury prone player. Somehow these "flukes" always happen to the same players.
What does his hitting in April last year have to do with anything? Sure, he was a great player before his body started to break down, nobody is denying that. But his body IS breaking down. What he does when he is healthy is irrelevant since he's never healthy anymore.

Gave up stealing bases long ago? You lost all credibility in one sentence. Hitting in April, well try to look at circumstances instead of final numbers!

Re: Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

Nice. The Dodgers chased Josh Johnson before he got an out in the third inning. The Blue Jays bullpen should be decimated for the rest of the series.

I love how the Dodgers have gone from a team that made any pitcher look good to a team that doesn't care who's pitching. Not that tonight's matchup was so tough, but the Nationals threw some pretty good starters out there.

I wish the Dodgers would just DL Kemp again too. They probably will. It seems like enough other guys are hitting right now that we can afford the time it takes to get him healthy.

Re: Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

Well? When players hit walls and break shoulders and player is built like a LB... that is not ordinary.
The year before injury he was robbed of MVP by guy who took drugs.
The next year he stated great..April hrs. Then went on DL for 2 months for hammy... Breaking his personal  record at time of 399 consecutive games.. which was longest in mlb at that  time.
He came back in mid July and hit wall in august. But played the rest of season which was big mistake on mattingly. He didn't steal a lot because of hammy.
So I have no clue  what you are taking about regarding Kemp... Pretty reliable till he had a hammy issue which btw is common on this team..then crashed into wall. Despite playing injured he still hit over .300 and 23 he's!
This year he is coming back from shoulder surgery which takes a year.. meaning maybe august he will be OK. HRam had it and it took him a while...he looks good doesn't he???
So he is not injury prone... Still recovering from surgery.... Anything else you got to beef about that does not make sense?

Regardless of how great anyone thinks Kemp could still be some day, or not be, is up for debate. But the fact remains that, except for yesterday, the Dodgers have had a great run without him and have played so much better than they did when he was in the lineup playing terribly, while the team resided for most of the season in the cellar. The fact is, he has now become a very expensive extra, who would be nice to have, but not necessary. The team has proven that. Also, regardless of how we feel about him, it would be naive to believe that absolutely none of the owners are having second thoughts about his contract. Let's just shelve him for this year. If we keep playing the way we are now, and with a little tweaking before the two deadlines, we can win it all without him. The offense is smoking and dies not need any disruptions. Go Bums.

Re: Dodgers @ Bluejays 7/22-7/24/2013

A healthy Kemp makes the offense so much better, so if he can play you don't just shelve him for the year.  A big IF I realize, but if a star is capable of playing then the star plays.  You don't think the Kemp of 2011 and the first 6 weeks of 2012 could help any offense ever?  Including the '27 Yankees, I say he could.

You saw what he did yesterday with a swing that looked much healthier for 1 day.  I kind of want Kemp for a playoff run.

Just the facts.
