Not looking good for Beckett, even though my name is connected to NASCAR, it's Friday, Happy Hour at a local watering hole looks like a good place to start!!!!!

Hey Burgos is rookie and doesn't have great stuff.
According to BA FA,cu, etc are all average  but he has good command so he locates well. He is their #14 best prospect..
He will end up with era or 4+ by end of yr..with that kind of stuff.
Time for some long ball.
If Beckett pitches like 2 starts ago he are fine..

At what point do we start to get concerned in the fact that Beli shakes off every pitch Ellis calls. Every pitch, every at bat. If he was pitching well it would be cool, but he's not and stuff like that doesn't sit well with catchers over the course of a year.

What on earth are you doing to us Hairston?

I'm worried about Ellis. He already has as many passed balls this year as the average catcher over the course of an entire season. Also, the pitching staff has 14 wild pitches. He is pulling a Martin and backhanding these balls as opposed to side stepping and getting in front. Others are simply off his glove and the pitchers are getting burned with a WP. Half of these are very preventable.

League is developing some consistency...

He has given up at least one run in five of his last seven appearances.

Good one....well we knew he wasn't a top notch guy...but hopefully he can give up less runs..
We do not score enough runs to have him scare us to death in 9th..

In his defense, he did get 5 outs but Hairston had two errors in one inning. banghead

I think Hairston's errors were with Belisario pitching in the 8th...

Oh come on. Since Wednesday only 1 of those runs was legitimately due to his pitching. His defense hasn't exactly done him favors in recent games.

Five of Seven, is still five of seven...

What you are describing is not just an excuse, but it is also evidence of why League is a weak closer.

One of the biggest weaknesses of League, is the fact that he is much more susceptible to good or bad luck because his strikeout rate is far below an elite closer's.  If you can't strike batters out at an above average rate, bloopers and errors are much more likely to occur.  That is just simple mathematics.

LOL oh come on Ron Cey. Yes, it's his fault that Crawford can't field a fly ball, or Hairston can't get a ground ball. Let me guess... it was Paco's fault that Kemp let the ball go through his legs in allowing Aoki to get to 3rd base, right? If only Paco just had K-stuff that wouldn't have been a discussion! Too bad he's not worthy of the loogy-setup role!

Nobody is arguing that League is an elite-level closer, and nobody is certainly arguing that League deserved the money that he got. But he had 27 Ks in 27.1 IP as a Dodger last year. The year is young. Either he will blow his opportunities, or he won't. However, to simply label all the runs as being "his fault" is ridiculous.

But as long as you mention bottom line, League is 7/8 as a closer. Isn't that the bottom line?  No, he certainly hasn't pitched as well as that stat indicates, but given that the 1 blown save should in no way have happened, I'd say he's actually getting the job done. As the season rolls along, either his K-rate will come back up to par or he will get shelled, in which Kenley will easily be switched into the role.

Matt Magill is starting tonight, filling in for Stephen Fife, who's going on the deal with bursitis in his shoulder.

Remember the Simpsons episode where a million injuries led to Homer at bat on a team with a ludicrous salary?
