I mean, come on. He makes up the story to continue the hoax against Te'o while getting the entire nation involved.
He creates some account, tells Manti that he knows a girl who's awesome and blah blah blah. He "introduces" her to him through some online place. He then makes up a story to Te'o and eventually "dies" when he gets tired of the prank.
The media catches onto it thinking that Te'o is a liar. So Mauia comes up with the story about how he "met" her.
That would make sense EXCEPT
1. Manti told the south bend paper that he met her at Stanford a couple of years ago(i posted the article)
2 Manti said that while she was sick they spoke on the phone for hours a day. So if your theroy is true did he get a girl to play along with this scam?
There is just simply no way Manti is a victuim in this. I think he was right in there with it for whatever reason... why? maybe he is gay that would make sense. maybe there is another reason, but i dont think hes innocent
What I said was a joke, Ryan.
The entire story is weird.
Notre Dame AD is stating that they did their own investigation and found two people online talking about it and read their conversations on how they were both in on it and laughed at his pain (Yahoo article).
Manti did not say he met her. His father did. It was also his father who said Manti saw her in Hawaii and whatever else. Manti, however, did not say he met her to the media.
Most likely, if it is a hoax, then Manti simply told his father that because he was drooling over her and his dad said, "did you meet her?" and he said, "of course, pops! I met her!".
And it was leukemia, not a car accident or whatever else, that apparently "killed" her.
They did talk on the phone, supposedly, according to the ND AD. They have her phone number and were able to investigate.
My question, though, is how did ND investigate? They didn't get the police involved. They could have some sort of investigator, but without legal warrants how did they get the information from online and through phone records?
That is what doesn't make sense.
Even if Manti did lie about the whole thing, that would mean that the Notre Dame AD is in much, much, much bigger doo doo for making statements like THAT.
Kids are stupid and lie. But an AD of a school like Notre Dame shouldn't be that stupid and lie even more to try to cover up an athlete that won't even be there next year.
Most likely, Manti lied about meeting her and his friend from the Cardinals didn't know exactly what went on or he is mistaken...or something.
There's just NO WAY that Notre Dame would want their name anywhere near this story if they didn't fully believe without a reasonable doubt and had evidence that it was a hoax by someone other than Manti.
