That Notre Dame kid with the name I can't spell

That Notre Dame kid with the name I can't spell

I am amazed no one has said anything on here about this yet.  Apparently the story about his dead girlfriend is not true.  Deadspin.com is reporting that the woman in the picures is some lady from California who has never met the man and there is no record of the girlfriend at the school and etc etc.

I don't know deadspin's story is true or not but no matter how this turns out it is a bad look for both the school and the kid.

I just read this.  Plain crazy.  Remember hearing his "story" while watching the Heisman Award Show.  What the hell was this guy thinking?

They were talking about this on the radio, and all I could think of was,

"My girlfriend's dead, you know.  She fell off a cliff and died on impact."

This all makes no sense. None. Why the hell would someone make up a story like that and not think they would be found out? And how could anyone possibly perpetrate a "hoax" like this on Teo (as Notre Dame has apparently said)?

I simply cannot process this.

I dont buy ND and Tep's version of the story for a few reasons

articles.southbendtribune.com/...rish-head-coach

And Manti Te'o is convinced the beautiful stranger will be watching too Saturday, somehow.

Lennay Kekua was a Stanford student and Cardinal football fan when the two exchanged glances, handshakes and phone numbers that fateful weekend three seasons ago.

She was gifted in music, multi-lingual, had dreams grounded in reality and the talent to catch up to them.

The plan was for Kekua to spend extensive time with the whole Te'o family when upwards of 40 of them came to South Bend in mid-November for ND's Senior Day date with Wake Forest.

so before they met at Stanford and now he never met? come on

There is speculation on Twitter that maybe Te'o is gay and he made this thing up to hide that... That is way more beleiveable than the BS they are feeding us right now

The problem is if she is(was) real then what the hell does Te'o have to gain from saying he was scammed? and why is their no recored of her death or this car crash which triggered this story?

The articles I have read all contradict each other. There's only one way that it can all make sense: Mauia is the dead girlfriend.

I mean, come on. He makes up the story to continue the hoax against Te'o while getting the entire nation involved.

He creates some account, tells Manti that he knows a girl who's awesome and blah blah blah. He "introduces" her to him through some online place. He then makes up a story to Te'o and eventually "dies" when he gets tired of the prank.

The media catches onto it thinking that Te'o is a liar. So Mauia comes up with the story about how he "met" her.

That would make sense EXCEPT

1. Manti told the south bend paper that he met her at Stanford a couple of years ago(i posted the article)

2 Manti said that while she was sick they spoke on the phone for hours a day. So if your theroy is true did he get a girl to play along with this scam?

There is just simply no way Manti is a victuim in this. I think he was right in there with it for whatever reason... why? maybe he is gay that would make sense. maybe there is another reason, but i dont think hes innocent

What I said was a joke, Ryan.

The entire story is weird.

Notre Dame AD is stating that they did their own investigation and found two people online talking about it and read their conversations on how they were both in on it and laughed at his pain (Yahoo article).

Manti did not say he met her. His father did. It was also his father who said Manti saw her in Hawaii and whatever else. Manti, however, did not say he met her to the media.

Most likely, if it is a hoax, then Manti simply told his father that because he was drooling over her and his dad said, "did you meet her?" and he said, "of course, pops! I met her!".

And it was leukemia, not a car accident or whatever else, that apparently "killed" her.

They did talk on the phone, supposedly, according to the ND AD. They have her phone number and were able to investigate.

My question, though, is how did ND investigate? They didn't get the police involved. They could have some sort of investigator, but without legal warrants how did they get the information from online and through phone records?

That is what doesn't make sense.

Even if Manti did lie about the whole thing, that would mean that the Notre Dame AD is in much, much, much bigger doo doo for making statements like THAT.

Kids are stupid and lie. But an AD of a school like Notre Dame shouldn't be that stupid and lie even more to try to cover up an athlete that won't even be there next year.

Most likely, Manti lied about meeting her and his friend from the Cardinals didn't know exactly what went on or he is mistaken...or something.

There's just NO WAY that Notre Dame would want their name anywhere near this story if they didn't fully believe without a reasonable doubt and had evidence that it was a hoax by someone other than Manti.

Re: That Notre Dame kid with the name I can't spell

This part is funny:

Swarbrick said Te'o got a call when he was in Orlando for a college football awards show, which was Dec. 6, from a number he knew to be Kekua. The voice on the other end was the one he knew as Kekua, Swarbrick said, and the person on the other end who Te'o had known to be his girlfriend, who he thought died in September, told Te'o she was not dead.

Swarbrick said the woman tried to restart the relationship after that phone call.

Then this happened:

That's when the university started looking into the matter including two meetings between Swarbrick and Te'o, the first of which lasted an hour and 45 minutes. Swarbrick said he was comfortable with the consistencies in Te'o's story. Swarbrick said Notre Dame hired private investigators to look into the hoax.

New information keeps going out all the time. That is from this article.
