how much of a prospect is he?  how fast will he go thru the system?

I am pretty sure I have read somewhere that he is fairly new to catching, but not baseball. He is fringe type prospect who could be a little more then that. The Royals really liked what he did in the Instructional League. I expect him to make the top 40 prospects sometime this Summer possibly. I don't know how fast he will go I assume level to level, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him play at Burlington to start the year then progress all the way AA mainly just because he was a college player.

I'm hearing he's legit, and is coming off an outstanding, eyebrow-raising performance in the instructional league. I'm also hearing good things about both his bat and his defense. In fact, the reports are good enough that I'm ranking him as the third best catcher in our system right now, behind Myers and Perez. Part of that is because we're still pretty weak at that position, and I'm not as high as others are on Pina. But I've got him pegged right now as a Top 50 player, and he could rank as high as #40. That's where I've got him right now as I finalize this year's Top 60.

Pina's defensive is probably higher than major league average right now.  But if he was going to have a breakout year offensively, you would have expected it to be last year.  In a hitters league and a hitters park he did nothing to show he can be an offensive threat.

I'm hopeful Perez's bat catches up to his glove this year.  I've read good things about David this winter and have seen the Royal's comments on him.  If Bonilla can rebound from an horrendous season we could finally have some catching depth.
