Aki idea?
TB is on the verge of trading him and his salary. its not the dodgers or cubs as many thought... chance its KC getting him for Buck? Salary is pretty close (after Buck gets arbitration)...and TB is in need of a catcher. Fingers crossed.

Are you hoping for this more because you want Aki in or Buck out?

Re: Aki idea?
Well his glove plays better than Callaspo if I recall correctly and he doesn't have the power Buck CAN display...but doesn't. So it's more of Buck being out. and even though his power bat he had in japan has never shown up in MLB...It'd suuure be nice if it did in KC. but in reading more, it looks probable he's Twins bound. Playing 2nd and 3rd both (they do not want to re-sign Crede)..it's looking more like he is going there, as they made a roster move shortly before the info about Aki broke...they cleared a 40 man spot.

Re: Aki idea?
10 internet bucks says he goes to the twins. If they want any shot at extending Mauer, they need to prove to him they will take steps to improve, and that starts with replacing little Nicky Punto.

Re: Aki idea?
Its not an awful idea. We improve the defense and dont sacrifice a ton with the bat. We would be giving up alot of offense if you think Callaspo is an .800 OPS guy. My guess is he isnt quite that good next year so Aki would be a nice pickup with Bert getting AB's everywhere...

Heyman confirmed on twitter that he's going to the Pirates.
i agree, it doesn't make a lot of sense, especially if they are trading a prospect or two to Tampa.

RE: Aki idea?
Rays get RP Jesse Chavez in return.
so...really not that much. basically their Leo Nunez, although I'd argue Nunez was/is a bit better.

RE: Aki idea?
Jarrett Hoffpauier was the type of player this team should be looking at...he would have cost a 40 man spot but we have so much dead weight there... I wrote about him last year on http://lighthittinginfielder.com/hotstovemiddleinf ileders.html but...he is now a Blue Jay

Kind of another Callaspo....good bat, poor glove.

I actually think we could be pretty strong as far as depth at the middle infield spots. We have Callaspo and yuni. Hopefully Avilles comes back at least decent. I would actually send him to AAA for a bit and let him get his feet back under him. Then we have bloomquist who will at least give us good D at 2b. Then we will have bianchi in AAA. So if we could pickup a guy like aki that would be ok, but im not sure it would be a top need right now

When you start a discussion about middle infield depth by talking about Yuniesky Betancrap, that automatically means you have awful depth. Get serious. Betancourt is one of the worst regulars in the game, and that's being generous, Aviles had one fluke good season (on offense) and Bloomquist and everyone else sucks or is an okay prospect, nothing more. Callaspo is an average player...but not that great. Come on dude........

Yuni is on the team. you dont have to like it but it is a fact. Its not going to change so move on. If you cant accept it and move on then dont root for the team end of story... We know how everyone feels about yuni and the trade, but the fact is that hes part of the team next year and not mentioning him isnt going to make him go away. Not to mention its pretty nieve and childish. You know damn well the point I was making

No way in your mind that he can post an .800+ OPS going forward?

I wouldn't say I am completely writing him off, but I do think his offensive numbers that were fluky (and so does a vast majority of the people here)..the BABIP and lack of plate discipline backs that argument up. I wouldn't say it's impossible for him to post an .800 OPS going forward, but it is not likely. He was a career minor leaguer that got a chance and had one good season thanks to a great BABIP. Doesn't mean he's a complete loser like Yuni, but it's pretty likely that he isn't THAT good. Could definitely have some value to us.

You know damn well the point I was making Yes, he is on the team...but when he's your starting SS, it is impossible to have good middle infield depth, which is what we are talking about. How the hell am I "not mentioning him." You brought up middle infield depth, and I am talking about Yuni..who is a middle infielder.
Yes, I know the point you were making, and I responded directly to it. You said our middle infield depth could be good, and I responded by showing how obviously wrong that statement is. We have ONE average or better middle infielder. Every other middle infielder we have is a huge pile of crap or an unproven prospect/player. That is so far from "good depth" that it's a joke.
