As Royals fans, we need to preserve and pass on the wisdom that Zack Greinke has brought us. To this end, I humbly request that everyone post their favorite Zack Greinke quotations in this thread. Try and give the source, if you can remember it. I'll start:
"I'm kind of scared to throw to him. For some reason, he's probably the one I'm scardest of. I have like nightmares about him."
Zack on Tim McClelland, post-game, 5/7/08
"You don't faze me, Gobble."
From one of his mic'd up segment on RSTN last year. For those of you who haven't seen it, he's shagging fly balls in the outfield and Gobble runs past right as he's about to catch one.
And my personal favorite:
"I just wanted to make this clear: I can't live without baseball...It's to the point where it caused problems with my girlfriend because she knows baseball is more important than her. I say, 'Hey, I'm sorry. I love the game that much. You're not even close to being No. 1 -- that's how much I love baseball. I couldn't live without it."
From an interview with the Star...not sure of the exact date, but it was probably 2006 or 2007.

Re: Greinke Quote Compilation
When he was breaking out of the depression funk he said sometimes he thought about quitting baseball and mowing lawns.. "Anything after that would be too late for me, anyway. I was looking at colleges for me to go to, schools in vacation places like Hawaii, just to get away from everyone I knew, so I could start over. I also thought about mowing lawns for a living because I like to be outdoors. "

One of my favorites: Greinke was, by most accounts, the best golfer on the Royals but soon after arriving at Spring Training 2008 when asked by a reporter about his golf game, that he’d given up the sport, “because there’s no point to it, I’m not going pro.”

RE: Greinke Quote Compilation
Great thread. I've actually been saving some Greinkisms for a long time. They're all out of the KC Star (mostly from Posnanski columns).
While he was still in the minor leagues:
“No sir, Mr. Baird. I’m not worried (about velocity). I’m worried that you might be worried. I can throw 94 and have a 2.50 ERA. Or I can throw 91 and have a 1.20 ERA. That’s up to you.”
“The quick pitch is my favorite," Baird confessed. "I try not to laugh in case I'm on camera."
Then a few years ago, after pitching a great game, a reporter asked Greinke if today was the best he felt:
“No,” Greinke said. “The best I felt was that game when I gave up seven runs.”
I wish I had a transcript of an interview I heard last year when he was talking about whether or not he could throw 100 mph. He said he couldn't but that the radar gun said he did one time in St. Louis.

RE: Greinke Quote Compilation
"i'd say the average person wouldnt eat a chipotle burrito and still do his running.. full speed.. like me. Thats why they call me special"
"you just go back and then forward, so you get a good release spot. then, you get the 300 games that you dream about, since you were a little boy" - then he takes his glove off, and throws a ball left handed and says "bam"
after talking about golf for about 5 straight minutes in an interview: "i dont know if we really want to talk about this anymore, its kind of stupid"

I put a link to this thread on my blog ( bigdonkeys.blogspot.com/). I hope this thing keeps growing. Nothing better than reading about The World According to Greinke.

He said he couldn't but that the radar gun said he did one time in St. Louis. That was in an interview with Soren, I remember that one. He said that he didn't thinke he could throw 100 mph, but that he had. It was pretty funny. One of my favorite ones is from last year when he was facing DiceK the second or third game of the year. Someone asked him what he thought of the match up and he replied that if he lived in Kansas City, he probably wouldn't go to a lot of games, but he'd definately go that one.

Looks like there's a wealth of Greinke-related stuff in the Star's online archives, but you have to pay to get access to it. Shame...

This one came from the Star:
"When I come to spring training, I’m in great shape. If I stay in good shape, I won’t have to relax all day so much. I could still do stuff and still be fine if I have to pitch."
And two of my personal favorites, from conversations I had with him in 2006:
Me: "Hey Zack, would you mind doing an interview before or after your start tomorrow night?" Zack: "After is better. Uh, what time does the game start?" Me: "I think it starts at 7:10." Zack: (With a sly grin across his face) "OK, thanks, now I know."
And the gem from that interview ...
"My first step was to try to get mentally right, and I don't know if I'll ever be mentally right, but I'll try and I'll get as close as I can."
Zack Greinke = a great, great dude

Zack is awesome.
Not to derail the thread, but I do hope we lock him up to a 4 or 5 year deal soon. More quotes. :)

RE: Greinke Quote Compilation
From the mic'd up videos:
"Soria, you runnin' today? You're goin' down then. I'm gonna so much faster than you, you're going to be eating my dust."
"I was going to race Soria but he backed down. He said he's too tight today. He's not ready for a real challenge."
"I really want to rob a homer today. Really bad. It's all up to the hitters."
"Yeah, I brought my Wii home anyway. We're 0-4 with it...after we win today it's back in here. Ross Gload, he's so ticked right now."
"How hard do you think this is?" Gobble: "89." "Yeah right. That's probably the fastest ball you've seen in your life."

RE: Greinke Quote Compilation
I liked this one...paraphrasing:
Interviewer: Zach, does signing gill to a 55 million dollar deal show you that the royals are willing to go out and get free agents to make this team better
Zack: no. Anyone can sign one player.
