Gameday 8/14: Ned switching things up

RF Aoki
SS Escobar
LF Gordon
1B Butler
DH Willingham
3B Moustakas
C Kratz
2B Colon
CF Dyson

P Shields

vs. Samardzija

noidea I think I kinda like it.  Of course I'd rather have Sal in there, but he's due for a day off (Cain too).

Perez definitely needs the day off.

Obviously Sal would be better, but I like this lineup a ton better with Kratz and Willingham rather than Hays and Ibanez.

Willingham hasn't had much luck against Shark, would rather Ibanez get a start at DH today. But whatever...Willingham is the shiny new toy so Ned is gonna play him.

That is one of Ned's deals.  When Scott Downs was signed, he pitched like 4 days in a row.  Is he still with the team now?

While I like Colon getting multiple days in the lineup, I wonder if Infante's HR last night made Ned rethink giving him a day off.

Like Perez getting a rest.  Ned does play lots of his bench guys on the same day - travel day and Sundays.  Do you think who is pitching makes a difference on when Perez plays?  Kratz has reputation of being good behind the plate.

I'm fine with this lineup. Having Willingham/Colon makes it easier to stomach when some of the starters need a day off. I don't know if the numbers back me up, but I don't think there's much dropoff when Dyson starts over Cain. As long as Ibanez isn't in the lineup, I'm happy.

Ned likes to tinker too much, no reason for infante to be out while sal rests.

Thats funny because just two days ago people were bitching about him doing the same thing all the time, its almost as if he can't please everyone all the time.

As far as Willingham as the DH, Dayton said he would be the DH and thats what your going to see unless something weird happens and they need him in the OF.

I'm fine with resting Salvy and Lorenzo, but I don't like Escobar #2.  If it were me, I would have Dyson at #2.  noidea

Go Royals

It's a matter of putting the best lineup on the field, you don't sit everybody at once and you also play the hot hand.

OR, it could be that Ibanez has been 2 for his last 17?  noidea

What's the deal with the MLB free game of the day, does it still have blackout restrictions?

Re: Gameday 8/14: Ned switching things up

I'm not sure that I'd put together this lineup but I'm not the manager. As long as the Royals win, I don't care if Ned puts Rusty Kuntz in the lineup. As if Ned cares, but I'll hold him accountable for overall results, not every decision made along the way.

I approve of this message. I'm not sure if there's a more wasteful use of someone's time than complaining of the lineup. Especially on "getaway day".

Could you imagine if some of the "R's" fans were Oakland fans and they had to endure the 100 different lineups that Melvin has trotted out there this year?? Their heads would explode!!

How perfect is that? Only 2 teams ever have twice caught a first-place team like the Royals have - and one of them caught the 2003 Royals.

#Royals are 3rd team to overcome 7-gm deficits to reach first place twice in a season, joining 2003 #MNTwins & 1916 #Tigers. #MLB #Athletics

I still think that Raul can run into one every now and then against a RHP, but if anyone thinks he is a better option than Willingham, you're crazy.

Willingham does not have big splits and is an extremely consistent player.

Figured Infante would get a breather today...he probably needs one. Not sure I'm crazy about sitting both he and Sal in the same game..but...Sal needs it too.

Re: Gameday 8/14: Ned switching things up

With Shark, I don't mind Dyson over Cain. Dyson has seemed more patient this year and Cain will get in the game eventually, anyway around the 8th or 9th inning. Infante and Sal resting makes sense before the road trip. Esky at 2 is meh. I'd rather Dyson OR Colon in that spot. All that is pretty irrelevant if we don't work counts and get to their pen. Although Shark will give up lots of runs every once and a while.
