Game 70: The battle for 1st place

RF Aoki
2B Infante
1B Hosmer
DH Butler
LF Gordon
C Perez
3B Moustakas
SS Escobar
CF Dyson

P Ventura

vs Scherzer

Donnie Joseph and his 1 billion ERA was optioned back to Omaha, Louis Coleman and his slightly less sucky stats recalled.

Cain sore from yesterday's dive or just another day off? I understand he can't play every single day, but can he not go 2 weeks straight?

Cain looked uncomfortable after his diving catch last night, I'm not surprised he's out tonight. He's also slumping, too, so a day off is probably the best for the long-term.

During our little hot streak, we haven't faced a really solid starter (apologies to Cory Kluber).  See if the bats can get to Scherzer.

Dyson's career OPS against Sherzer is 143 points higher than Cain's. Aoki's is .333 higher than Cain. So the decision is obvious.

The radio was saying during the current 15-4 streak the opponents starters were over .500 with a 3.4ish ERA.  ( can't remember the exact ERA but it was mid 3's.)

Ned may be an idiot, but giving injury prone Cain a day off against one of the toughest RHP in baseball is no confirmation of that.

Since yesterday's game was THE most important of the season, I'm having a hard time getting juiced up for this one.

Thanks, Dave.

No that isn't, but if he did it because of batter/pitcher matchups then it is.

Yeah, even making the World Series would be pretty dull at this point.

I think my lungs will be shot until November after all the yelling and screaming I did last night at the TV - that all so "most important game of the season" in mid-June had me all too hyped up. Not much else to play for at this point now that the most important game of the year has been played.

Re: Game 70: The battle for 1st place

Eh, Cain's injuries are generally impact driven. I'm still not sure giving him random days off will help prevent his injuries unless Ned has a hunch that is the game he will go crashing into the wall.

So for a guy who didn't play on 6/9, 6/11, or 6/12, I would think he could go more than 4 days without needing another day off.

All of this is moot if he's actually banged up from his play last night obviously.

Scherzer Career:

K/BB
LHB: 2.43
RHB: 5.12

BAA
LHB: .261
RHB: .220

OPS
LHB: .754
RHB: .638

His numbers this year are about the same as his career.

EDIT:  I am not trying to make a point. I was curious and I thought others might be as well.

EDIT again to add...

Dyson vs Scherzer
14 AB, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB

Cain vs. Scherzer
12 AB, 0 H, 5 K, 0 BB

Aoki vs. Scherzer
2 AB, 0 H,  1 K, 1 BB

I bet Cain hyperextended that shoulder a little.  How couldn't he have?

I doubt its serious, probably just a little tight today.

I'll always remember where I was when Joseph gave up the GS...I was, like, no way dude!!  But then I realized it was just a garbage TD.  Not even that, a garbage FG, plus 1.  Either way, GARBAGE!!

So I know we're running late, but I just got the Camaro out of the shop and I'm ready for some tailgatin.'  Pick ya up in 10, wear something slutty.

Thanks, Dave.
