Buster Oleny is saying it is 4 years. About 30 million.

Remember the Yankees offered him 3/24 million.

I can live with the 4th year if the deal is really only 30 million, and not closer to the 40 he was demanding

Here ya go -

@Buster_ESPN: Omar Infante is close to an agreement on a four-year deal for about $30 million with the Kansas City Royals.

In a vacuum, it's not horrible, but the 4th year and the fact that signing Infante to this deal means the Royals will undoubtedly make a related move cutting money elsewhere makes it garbage.

Infante is a solid 2B. His age is a big concern though.

Still, you can spot Emilio against the occasional righty and have some good production out of 2B. Not the worst 2 hole in the world, relative to what we're used to

If the Royals get Infante for $8 million AAV, can't really complain. That's what he's worth, and they're a lot better with him than without.

His value is mostly tied up in his batting average and his good defense, and I'm worried about how those strengths age. He doesn't walk and I wouldn't project him to slug more than .420 over the life of that contract, so he really needs to hit .290-.300 with above average defense to make this a good deal

4 year is meaningless.

in 3 years, we have a very inexpensive trade chip. same with Vargas.

might be able to package them together for a prospect we wish we had drafted this year.

so now we have leadoff and #2 locked up.

Aoki and Infante to set the table looks pretty damn good.

I'd be surprised if a 35 year old Infante had much trade value at all

Agreed. Some guys who are capable of getting on base (assuming Infante has really improved and doesn't revert closer to his .319 career obp) to set the table for Hos, Butler (maybe), Gordon, and Salvy.

Insurance against moose sucking too. Boni could play 3b. Not ideal but he was better than moose last year.

Also, idgaf about the money. We can move hooch or Davis to clear the needed payroll if it's a concern.

I think this is a very solid deal.  It fills the only remaining hole in our lineup that we had and we have improved on two of our biggest holes last year (RF & 2B).  I am not concerned with the 4th year.  The Royals have said the DH spot will be by committee in the very near future so I'm sure Infante will see more and more time at DH as he ages.

I also like giving Infante 4/30 instead of going 2/18 with Kendrick plus giving up Zimmer, Ventura, or Duffy.  I think we now trade Hoch for a nice A/AA arm that projects into the middle of the rotation in two to three years.
