"In a way, I feel like we won the World Series."

"In a way, I feel like we won the World Series."

That was a quote from Dayton Moore during the press conference this morning. I didn't hear the press conference, so if somebody has some context that makes this quote better please share it.  If he thinks finishing with the 7th best record in the AL and 5 games out of the playoffs is anything in the same stratosphere as winning the world series, then he is dumber than I even thought.  I really didn't think it was possible for him to be dumber than I thought he was when I woke up this morning.

It was a dumb, inexcusable choice of words. The context, if it makes anyone feel better, was his confidence level and the team's confidence heading into 2014 and the excitement surrounding the Royals and KC.

Agreed, Elchup.  Not a great choice of words, but nothing remotely similar to Ned's third baseman tree comment, either.

The context doesn't really make me feel better...

The way I interpreted it, DM's press conference today basically told the fans, "We're not going to re-sign Ervin Santana, and we're not going to sign any notable free-agents, either. We're going to go with what we have and hope that every single person on the roster gets better."

RE: "In a way, I feel like we won the World

Obviously we didn't win a WS. I think this was culture based for him. He really wants to win. KC teams have sucked historically. I personally don't feel that way at all, but I think he is speaking from depths of players wanting to change the culture of this team. So when u haven't won in a long time that is what it feels like to THEM. They actually feel like they accomplished an objective which was winning if it didn't end up in a playoff appearance. He set objectives to get pitching last year. He got Shields, and Santana. The offense fell flat on their faces because of dissapointment from Butler and Gordon. His new objective is to get offense with infusing what pitching we have. Also they probably as a team feel a lot different about winning then an average fan. It means more to them then either you or me. I don't know that is the best I got. A dumb GM does not get Santana or win 86 games.

Or it is a simple matter of the Royals having no PR at all thus no public speaking ability so prone to speaking stupid. DM probably just let his emotions speak out and what he expects versus actually being logical in his word choice.

Typical postseason comment from the GM of a team that did surprisingly well but fell short of the playoffs.  Easily said, totally irrelevant, and quickly forgotten.

43-27 since the all star break!  I feel the clubhouse losing atmosphere has changed.  I feel Dayton's excitement.  The results of the front office's hard work is showing up in the standings.  Big, big step in the right direction.

I thought you said 9th best earlier? Did something change?

Weird how having a few good games in September hasn't gotten Moore an extension

Yeah, he said he expected the payroll to be about the same. Typical of KC media, nobody bothered to follow up by asking about the $20 million extra they'll be getting for the new TV deal. flushed

I'm going to be pissed if they don't try to upgrade the offense.
Lends ChiTown dollars to keep buying that

They are totally worthless.  They will have to read about it on this forum about 25 times before they bring that subject up.

They were ninth best when I said that.  They passed the Yankees and Orioles and finished one game up on each of them.  This is basic stuff.

Why would they try to upgrade the offense?  Every player is gong to get better.  Moore said that every organization would like to have Mike Moustakas as their 3B.  Yost said that he thinks Moustakas will be a perennial all star candidate.  This team is going go to be a dynasty starting next year.  Did you not hear the press conference?

Yea, just surprised you keep beating that tired drum....next year it will be "well they are only 3rd best, but let's celebrate how lucky we were."

One of these days you guys beating the "we are still sh!tty drum" are going to look up and notice a good team and say "we were fvcking lucky". I can hardly wait.....especially with how you butchered the context of DMs speech with this thread.....

How did I butcher the context of Moore's speech?  Please enlighten me on how I screwed that up.

If they get to the point to where they are good, I'll admit that I was wrong.  7th best record in the AL and 5 games out of the playoffs is nothing to celebrate though.  If you go back and look at the history of teams that improved by 10 or more games from one season to another, you'll see that more of those teams regress than get better following the big improvement year.  If this front office is just going to stand pat and hope the bats improve, then they are likely to regress next year as the pitching probably won't be as good.

What you are butchering is in the assumption that Moore meant anything particularly meaningful by the comment. You assume that it means he will stand pat. We don't know that. All you are doing is being negative to be negative.

RE: "In a way, I feel like we won the World

I find it funny that drunko, Wilson, and EBM are
all beating their drums. Nothing like a meaningless
press conference to fire up the nega-minds.

I'm sure DM will have his extension as well

Guys, we just had our best season in 24 years.
Let me say that again. We just had our best
season in TWENTY FOUR YEARS. chill out
a little. You have all off season to tear into DM
and the royals.

There will be moves to complain about and more
press conferences, oh the press conferences, to
fuss about.
