Welp...they really need to get some serious talent via trade or free agency or have existing players achieve max potential...because there will be no room for any thin margins for error. Ned gobbles up a team's margin like Butler on Oreos. We have to be overwhelmingly better than other teams to account for this guy.

Better get him an extension before someone else steals him away!  We can't afford to lose a GM who has given us one winning season in nearly a decade!  banghead

Not really shocked. managers just dont get fired or let go after 86 win seasons very often, especially when the franchise hasnt had one in 23 years... Hell as a matter of fact doesnt seem like managers get fired at all no matter what now days

I'll get upset when managers start to matter.

It's up to Dayton to find players and for those players to perform. MLB managers are glorified middle managers and media liasons. That's all.

I know everyone hates Yost, and he makes some bad tactical decisions and posts some lineups that are just out of this world wtf head scratchers but we could do a lot worse than Ned.

This is a case for me personally where the devil I know is better than the devil I don't.

I am neutral on this move.  Not excited, not upset.

I hate Yost. It makes perfect sense that the organization would wait to extend him until after the season for no apparent reason.

Man, am I the only one who gets a headache just trying to imagine this team being led into the playoffs by Yost? Just doesn't seem possible to be watching FOX baseball one year from now and hear, "Ned Yost has led the Royals to their first playoff game in nearly 30 years."

My first reaction was ban 'dcbake' for a week for delivering this horrific news.

But after I calmed down I really think it's a sign that DM is toast after next season if we aren't in the playoffs or close to it.  A 2 year contract is not a contract that resembles ownership being 'thrilled' with their manager.  That contract is easy to buy out even next season by the All-Star break if the team is doing poorly.

KC just had its best season in decades and they award the manager with a 2 year contract.  Compare this to Baltimore who after a great season awarded Buck Showalter with a 6 Year contract!  If the Royals are struggling next season, DM is toast and will not be renewed- the manager will be cheap to buy out and the new GM will be able to bring in his own guy.

The ownership basically decided to 'push'.

I fully believe we could go to the playoffs with Ned Yost IF our team is overwhelmingly better than the competition.  I do NOT think he can make good decisions when it comes down to the pressure of a 7 game series.  He needs MAXIMUM margin to manage.  Playoffs don't allow margin.  Watching Maddon last night was beautiful.  Not a fan of the Rays, but he did a great job managing what he could control.  Ned can't do that.

Does that count attempts?  Because I think we led the majors in failed sac bunt attempts...

thats kinda how I look at it.. Unless the Royals were going to go out and get a top guy id just assume keep Yost. Despite some people's opinion of Yost you can do worse. Ron Washington is a lot worse than Yost imo, so you can do worse(and still win btw)

no of course not, but i doubt that's true.

anyway i realized i should have used AL rankings because obviously NL pitchers bunt all the time. either way it's still middle of the pack since Yost came on 3 years ago.

The bunting hate is hilarious.....guess what, Francona bunts a lot too....with Jason F Kipnes sometimes.... The entire league is going to have to change to get people to stop bunting....

I fully agree.  You don't fire a manager after leading them to their best season in 20 years.  This is a no brainer.   Switching managers for the sake of switching managers is dumb and if you fire a guy after 86 wins you are never going to get the top manager anyway.  THat means that if you get Larussa he has to win 86 every year so he doesn't get fired.
