2012 Attendance vs 2013 Attendance

Avg. 2012 KC Royals Home Attendance 21,748.
Avg. 2013 KC
Royals Home Attendance 21,415

Why would Glass invest more money? I wouldn't

Yet television viewership is way, way up. 50% up, actually.

What are the prices like this season compared to last season at the stadium?

Not sure, they seem to have went up some though. Just disappointing. I've been meaning to check this, I was hoping it would be up 3k or so average, but I was very disappointed. I just see Glass as a dollars and cents kind of guy, and if he gets no ROI I doubt he's going to continue to pump money into the club. Hopefully that new TV money everybody else is talking about helps.

We also had the All-Star game last year, so there's that.

RE: 2012 Attendance vs 2013 Attendance

I think it you look back at organizations that went through a deep period of losing that you will see a pattern. The attendance boost doesn't come as much in that first season. It comes the next one. Look, even this season, they were five games under .500 on 7/22. That is almost 2/3rds of the season. I don't blame the fans for not showing up before the team showed life.

I think back to how football got so big in KC. Arrowhead had a sellout streak that went for something like 18 seasons. It started in Schottenheimer's third season on Opening Day 1991. 1974-88 they had two winning seasons and only sold out maybe 3 or 4 games TOTAL. 1989, they go 8-7-1 and there is a little more support. 1990, they go to the playoffs, but still can't sell out the stadium. It wasn't until 1991 that the fans totally bought in.

The Royals are going to have to start hot and be a consistent contender, then the fans will start transferring the TV viewing to ticket buying. If Glass is waiting on the fans, he will be waiting forever. The equation is winning before high attendance, not the other way around.

and weather was awful the first 6 weeks of the year...

For example the Royals didnt get the 30,000 they usually get for school day at the K. If the Royals finish strong and are decent next year you;; see a big boom in attendance

Yeah, the All Star Game played a HUGE role last year, you have to account for it. They were selling season ticket packages last year that included the ASG. And for some, the only way to go to the ASG was to buy those ticket packs. That game alone boosted attendance for the season.

instead they got that 30K split over a few games, such as the Monday afternoon game v. Tampa Bay that 'drew' 20546.

Ultimately, the failure to sell more tickets rests on the organization, not the fans. The Royals have the best product they've had in 20 years, and the people who are supposed to tell the team to get more fans are not succeeding in their jobs.

When they flood the park with literally dozens and dozens of different company signs, annoy everyone with those stupid twitter messages from teeny-boppers ("Excited for my first Royals game!" on the scoreboard, blast crappy music, put those fat cheerleaders on top of the dugout to tease the Raytowners with a hot dog, etc. and then charge them really absurd prices for food/drinks compared to other MLB parks, then people will stay home and watch it in HD instead.

All star year is not a fair comparison

Compare 2013 to 2011, 2010, 2009 .........

Re: 2012 Attendance vs 2013 Attendance

Exactly. They tied the ASG to so many game packages it artificially boosted last years attendance.

All-star game last season... and the May skid really put the brakes on ticket sales this season. We really haven't been "in it" very much this season.

Not sure if it's been said, but I think the All-Star Game last year may have artificially boosted attendance.
