Best role for Gordon the way current lineup is built.

Good. Prototype lead off hitter, be damned. Alex is extremely valuable and productive in that spot. I'm on board with this.

Re: Thank God!

He's also said repeatedly that this is dependent upon Hos becoming a true number three hitter. Frankly I would love for us to have a Bourn type who can lead off with some speed and move Gordo to 2nd or 3rd and move Hos down until he gets it. Ideally Cain could fill this role but will need to hit near 300 to drive his OBP to the required .350 based on his walk rate.
My ideal Lu has Cain leading off with .350 obp, Gordo second, Hos 3rd butler 4th then Moose Salvy frenchy Gio Escobar.

Now if Escobar starts to walk just a little bit more and maintains his near .300 he could displace Cain in my situation.....

I like Gordon's pop lower, but higher obviously gets our 2nd best hitter the most ABs...

With what's probably going to happen with our players, I totally agree....rather have him than a .330 obp esky or Cain....

Thank god. Best spot for him. Gets on base at a great clip, can run the bases well, hits a ton of doubles, so he's often in scoring position....great news.

RE: Thank God!

The stats folks say that most important batting positions are 1, 2, and 4.  Love having Gordon and Butler in 1st and Cleanup spot.  Still not thrilled with Ned insistence that the 2nd place hitter is a contact guy who can bunt, handle the bat, etc.  but don't think that will change soon.

Gordon, Escobar, Hosmer, Butler, Perez?  for top 5.  I like Perez in 5th spot where he'll make contact and can drive the ball.  Won't strike out a ton either

Cain has potential to be a great no 2 hitter if he can cut back on the K's

RE: Thank God!

Escobar is my pick to hit behind Gordon. If he's can build on last year, I like him to be our leadoff hitter.

As far as Gordon goes, I hope we have the luxury to leave him @ the leadoff position. I think that means Hosmer/Mous have continued to develop. However, I bet Gordon's bat continues to prove to be the top from the left side and he's in the middle of the order by mid-season.

I just wrote up a piece about this type of lineup...how the lineup should be stacked according to stats/probabilities/values/etc...

I had Gordon, Hosmer, Perez, Butler, Moose as 1 thru 5 with an explanation of why each guy went where...

When Doug Moe use to coach the Denver Nuggets, he used the phrase "tissue paper athletes" for guys who always got hurt.  I don't know if Cain is jinxed, isn't praying enough, has not made the proper sacrifice to Joboo or any other locker room shrine or is made of Charmin.  He does seem to get hurt alot.

Last year and now this, I'm almost ready to call him a paper doll. Hard to believe he was anything but that before he became a Royals. His previous seasons as a professsional he was good for 400 PA a season.

PA's (first full professional season = 2006

2006 = 603
2007 = 533
2008 = 550
2009 = 232
2010 = 538
2011 = 573
2012 = 299

Why don't you do some research, before spouting off incorrect information? ohlord
