King Felix gettin' paid
M's extend: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_...ccording-report
This is good news. Would have been cool to see him go to the NL, but he's now not a threat to end up in the division at least.

He isn't getting paid in his next deal like 26 year old Felix Hernandez just did. I don't think Verlander is crying at night though considering he made $20 million last year and will make $20 million per over the next two seasons.

That guy could pitch in to his late 30's early 40's if he wants. Hes this generations Nolan Ryan in the sense that he just doesnt ware down

Felix is awesome, but that kind of money and years for a pitcher is terrifying to me.

Felix is awesome, but that kind of money and years for a pitcher is terrifying to me. Good point about Kershaw. I had never looked up his numbers before just now and those are ridiculous. In knew he was good, but damn. It's a huge freaking risk. No doubt about it. It would be interesting to know how much of these contracts that teams are able to insure. There aren't many guys I would give 7 years to, but Hernandez would be one that at least looks like a reasonable risk.

You dont think someone will commit to Verlander till hes 38? you havent paid attention to how teams spend money then The only way he gets less than Fielx is if he gives the Tigers a home town discount

The only way he gets less than Fielx is if he gives the Tigers a home town discount Ha. No, I don't think somebody is giving Verlander $27 million per year for 7 years when he is 31 years old. Where is the precedent for something like that happening? I'm not saying he couldn't get that much money per season. Hell, he might get more than that on a four year deal.

Many position players are owed huge money late in to their 30's. Like I said the only way he gets a shorter or cheaper is if he gives the tigers a discount. if he doesnt he'll get 6-7 years

Is it really that difficult to slow down and use a spell check and read a four line post to make sure that you aren't asking somebody "what the president" is? I hate to be the grammar nazi, but good grief. Second, you gave me nothing that shows me that major league baseball teams are willing to give pitchers in their 30s deals that are for seven years and $27 million per. No pitcher has ever signed a contract like the one you are suggesting Verlander will get in their 30s. Maybe Verlander will break the mold and set a new precedent, but there is nothing out there right now which would indicate 7/$187 is the minimum that he will get and it is foolish to think otherwise.

To both of you, I'll echo a post by Greg Schaum, a long time ago. Ryan won't spell it out himself, but there are reasons for his spelling/grammar errors. A bit of sensitivity might be in order here. I don't know what Ryan's challenges might be, I've never met him. But I recall a post where he mentioned that snow and ice made it hard to get his chair around. For all I know, he's posting with voice-recognition software, which might easily turn "precedent" into "president". Whatever, he's a Royals' fan. Deal with it.

I agree Nick, a guy doesn't have to agree with Ryan but get off his nuts and appreciate there are fans of this team that go through a hell of a lot more than the average fan to show their support.

The best part was he hated large market teams and wanted to give KC the home town discount. I hate waking up from those dreams.
