Re: Kelly Johnson Signs w/Rays
Kelly Johnson's not very good, but at least he would have supplied some power potential to the position and isn't that what DM has been preaching all offseason? That this team is all of a sudden going to be able to hit HR's

RE: Kelly Johnson Signs w/Rays
I liked Johnson as well and would love to have seen him picked up. We probably would have had to pay more though then what the Rays did. There might have been the chance as well Johnson would have been uninterested in coming here, but maybe DM could have talked him into it.

Directed by DM who made the decision to fire Seitz and hire a new hitting coach

It would have been such a minimal upgrade I don't see the point. A Getz/Gio platoon will produce the same WAR. Johnson is on the decline.

Re: Kelly Johnson Signs w/Rays
I disagree, Kelly Johnson would have been a 1.5 to 2 win upgrade over Getz and, frankly, I'm not convinced Gio is ever going to cut it in the bigs. Chris Getz WAR over the last 5 years: 0.8 combined
Kelly Johnson WAR over the last 5 years: 9.1 combined

Kelly Johnson WAR over the last 5 years: 9.1 combined Not trying to defend Getz, but you're exaggerating Johnson's potential. 2012 - Johnson in 518 PA had .7 War. 2012 - Getz in 210 PA had .5 War. Johnson is a K machine, his K% has skyrocketed with in the last few years from a semi-decent 16% to a 22%, and then a 26% and last year a 27% K rate. He's going to strike out 6-7% less in 2013 than Adam Dunn, but hit about 75% less home runs :P. Chris Getz is a ****** option, but I'd be willing to bet that Johnson has a worse year than Getz in 2013.

I seriously doubt I'll be able to look back and eat crow or present a correct prediction, because I don't think Getz is going to get 350 PA, and Johnson is certainly a candidate for less than 400.

Re: Kelly Johnson Signs w/Rays
The best case scenario for the Royals is Christian Colon shows even a glimpse of potential at AAA and is called up this year to the full time starter at 2B.

This is going to sound so cliche, but Giavotella needs to find a way to slow his game down. It seems that when he is in KC, he can't take a walk and can't make contact with the ball to save his life. In AAA, he walked more than he struck out. He has a proven that he has a great eye and I'd love for him to be able to bring that to the majors. God I'm ready for ST.

He isn't going anywhere as a major league player unless he fixes his walk and k rate. I watched some of him last year, but I don't think he will ever be anything more then an average player. Hope I am wrong, but nothing sticks out and his big skill is hitting and it isn't showing up.

Re: Kelly Johnson Signs w/Rays
I hope you are wrong too. I think the Royals see Gio as the answer at 2B, with Getz as insurance. One will make the team, the other will be traded.
