Mendoza is in mid season form

Mendoza is in mid season form

http://www.baseballamerica.com...series-openers/

Luis Mendoza is in midseason form going 6 innings.  Does it give him advantage coming into ST.  He won't have to be concerned with only going 45 pitches his first outing 3 weeks from now.

Is this even a good thing? I'm sure it means that he's been throwing a lot. Doesn't that also mean that his arm will get tired earlier in the season?

Most of the guys who go back and play in the winter leagues do it almost every offseason. My guess is that Luis has probably been doing this for a few years now. I doubt if it's a big deal, and if it was I'm sure the Royals would make sure he wasn't doing it.

yeah I think fans make more out of winter ball than is really there. These guys have been playing year round since they were 18. If they were going to ware down youd see it by now

winter ball, the central american leagues and spring training just show the difference between baseball today and 40 yrs ago.  Guys still throw 300+ innings a year, its just not all within the season.

How about Dozer taking a no-no tonight until 1 out in the 8th!!!!

Of course he threw in excess of 115 pitches though, thanks alot!  So now when he can't lift a baseball in July, we'll at least be able to say that he almost threw a no hitter in the freaking Caribbean Series banghead

I seem to recall that excessive winter innings was the downfall of Jose Rosado.

I think it was excessive Tony Muser.  I recall some baseball exec saying that what the Royals did to Rosado was "criminal."

Don't remind me. Sometimes I wonder how many more games we would have won in 2003 with a 29 year old Rosado in his prime... and I get angry. mad

RE: Mendoza is in mid season form

Does anyone know what the training schedule would be for a guy like Mendoza since he is obviously in shape to pitch alot?  Seems like most guys go to ST and build up to the level that he is at right now.  Seems like 100 pitches would be a max amount for opening day, not February.

Does being game sharpened give Mendoza an edge for 5th starter spot since he won't be knocking off the offseason rust?  I hope he comes to camp in the "best shape of his life."

What is the over under on how many times we'll see or hear that in next few weeks?

Mendoza will have plenty of time to rest his arm in long relief this season.  That man has ZERO chance to the be the 5th starter.  He could have a .000 ERA this spring and Yost would say, "To have someone like the Dozer in long relief to keep us in ballgames with his pitchability is really going to protect our pen, I love him there."  I hate it...but I have moved through the stages of Denial-Anger-Bargaining-and now I am finally at Acceptance.  It feels good guys.

This.

Between the odds that the #5 starter might only see 2 starts in April, and the fact that barring injury Mendoza has a 0.01% chance of being that 5th starter anyway, I wouldn't worry about what he's doing in the Caribbean series.

Mendoza is invisible, so no worries of him getting overused. Well, except to mop up Hochevar, Chen, Santana's messes every few weeks.

IF Chen and Hochevar pitch like last year, Mendoza won't lack for work.  He'll be up as much as Everyday Tim Collins.
