Re: Hochevar Files for arbitration
It will be interesting to see if the club takes him to arbitration, or try's to settle prior. If it were me, I'd make him set through the hearing.

RE: Hochevar Files for arbitration
i think if he settles we cannot let him go during the spring for 1/6 of his salary. does anyone know this for sure?
however, i dont think they have any intention of letting him go or trading him for a salary dump. they already had that chance and decided to keep him.
my opinion is he will be our number 5. as much as we have debated it, i dont think kc has ever had a question about where hoch will be.

Doesn't matter if he settles or goes to arbitration, an arbitration eligible player contract is not guaranteed unless the club offers a guaranteed deal outright. Those are pretty rare and are usually only done in cases of buying out multiple arb years (Lincecum for example, or extensions like Escobar, Perez, etc.), or when the club is trying to save some money and lowballs a player with a cheap, but guaranteed tender, and the player is worried that he might be cut in ST and accepts rather than going before an arb panel and possibly getting a larger, but non-guaranteed contract.

Give up 9 runs or less in 90% of starts. 3. Finish in top 250 in ERA among qualified American League starters. DM: "we feel we've established some realistic parameters for Luke, and we expect a solid season out of Hoch."

RE: Hochevar Files for arbitration
What team would keep a $4.6 million 5 th starter who was 8-16 last year with ERA around 5. His track record and age tell us he probably won't get better. This guy isn't 22 and struggle in big leagues. For a team so concern with budget, how can they keep Luke when Mendoza, Smith, or even Moscoso could provide those results.
ST will be an interesting time for Luke & KC. If he pitches well, market value increases but DM' s affinity to think he has turned corner rises also. Luke in 2013 rotation will doom KC to finish below. 500.

RE: Hochevar Files for arbitration
Yeah Yeah, Hochevar sucks. But if Soriano gets 28 million over two years to close, pitch 150 innings over the course of his contract AND Soria gets 8 million over two years to set up, maybe 75 innings over the course of his deal, is Hochevar's 4 million out of line?
If he makes the team and is the 5th guy, he will likely pitch 150 innings this year for a fraction of the money that these two dudes made in free agency to be relievers! Its crazy, but pitcher values are out of whack with expectations. Seriously, 8 million for a guy coming off his second Tommy John that probably won't pitch until the all star break? Sad truth is, Hochevar's arbitration number is probably a bargain.
He signed 4.65. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/r...25004--mlb.html

Re: Hochevar Files for arbitration
I don't have a problem giving 4.65 million to a decent pitcher, like even league average. Problem is, Hoch doesn't fit that description.

RE: Hochevar Files for arbitration
Any of us could probably do better for a much cheaper price. I think 2.5 mil would pull me away from my 37k salary.
