UTTER..RETARDATION...Soriano, 2/28 million!!
How in god's green earth does a closer make 14 million per year? it also has an option year for another 14 million.
This sets him up for a potential 3/42...my god..
Starting pitchers are going to start demanding a frigging FORTUNE!

I really think this offseason and the coming offseasons will lead to changes in baseball. The money being tossed around has been insane, and you have pretty good players still out there that no one wants to sign because it will cost them a draft pick. I think youll see pretty significant changes in the next 5-10 years

that is the thing..Washington shelled out that money, AND lost their draft pick. When they already had Clippard and Storen..just nuts to do this.

RE: UTTER..RETARDATION...Soriano, 2/28 million!!
Scott Boras pulls the Jedi mind trick on another unsuspecting onwer who has more money than common sense. Wonder how much the playoff meltdown bought into the fear and anxiety that the Nats bullpen wasn't good enough to win it all? Also, I wonder how much Boras' relationships with several other Nats players helped in the "negotiations?"
KC bullpen is looking better all the time - How much do Holland, Crow, Collins, Herrera make combined - $2 - 3 million?

Another thing to think about..
Washington has been the most interested in Javy Vasquez...
Does this moronic salary prevent them from going for him now?

RE: UTTER..RETARDATION...Soriano, 2/28 million!!
Teams like the royals are just as much as fault for maintaining low payrolls year in year out
I would propose a payroll cap of 160 million and a floor of 110 million

Lends ChiTown dollars to keep buying that

--------------------------------------------- The Royals arent a good example of the problem . While it is true they have been guilty of having lower than necessary payrolls in a few seasons they have also had payrolls in the 70-80 million dollar area as well. A better example of what your talking about is the Marlins. The way they have done buisness over the last two decades is just disgraceful, and what they did this offseason was just a middle finger to the game imo. Absolutely awful. I agree I think a salary floor of 90-100 million makes sense. If your going to limit the money the big teams are spending you have to raise the number the smaller teams are spending. I also dont think some sort of rule preventing what the Marllins did this offseason wouldn't be a bad thing. something like if a FA contract is signed for 3 years or longer said player cant be traded until the 2nd year of the deal or something like that. I just dont think you should be able to dump that amount of salary that easy

Re: UTTER..RETARDATION...Soriano, 2/28 million!!
While I agree with some sort of salary cap, I'm not sure I buy into a floor. In the case of a team that's good at drafting and developing, it's within the realm of possibility that they just wouldn't need to spend much money in some years. You'd be requiring them to spend when they quite possibly didn't need to.
If there were a floor, I think it should be pretty low. Low enough that if a team isn't meeting it, they obviously just don't care about fielding a major league team.

I have a cousin who suffers from mental retardation. It's pretty upsetting to see people fling it around like you do, Kenny. You're better than that.

If youve got a bunch of young players on your roster, and as a result have a low payroll. Thats when a small market team should look to make a splash in FA or trade. Get that one stud pitcher you need or big bat. If you have some sort of cap you have to have some sort of floor as well. Its fair to the players and the big market owners

here, allow me:
re·tard [ri-tahrd, for 1–3, 5; ree-tahrd for 4] Show IPA verb (used with object) 1. to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede. verb (used without object) noun 3. a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance, as in a machine. 4. Slang: Disparaging. b. a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way: a hopeless social retard. 5. Automotive, machinery . an adjustment made in the setting of the distributor of an internal-combustion eng I'm well aware what it means. I also know that you're not using it that way. You can pretend that you are, but we all know you're not. When I said you're better than that, I was trying to be polite. You're really not.

Do you introduce your cousin like, this is my cousin...he/she suffers from mental retardation?"...because that's the only case I know of where "retardation" would be used in describing a person suffering. To retard, would be to hinder, or negatively affect the outcome of a circumstance. My outlook at Washington signing a closer to a ridiculous amount, has me feeling their decision RETARDS the process of the Royals and other teams keeping the salaries in check for starting pitchers when a closer makes more than a lot of them. Now, maybe you can go get in your little PC rowboat, and paddle up and down the riverbanks trying to teach everyone else your neat little desire to make sure everyone is socially aware and adept to making everyone keep smily happy faces on...myself, i choose to speak freely, say what I want, in the manner I want, and if you decide to take it upon yourself to ASSUME you know how I meant a word that one way...keeps flow with the topic at hand, and in another way degrades and demoralizes an entire sect of the population who suffer terribly, then that is up to you. Too bad your brain wrapped around the latter. I blame your educational system.
