Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
According to RosenthalWhy is this important? Because the Nationals, the Red Sox and Rays were in attendance as well, but are not likely to offer a big league contract...and we can.

Re: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
I would not be against his being signed but again would raise the question of what to do with Hoch? Also would be concerned with his previous desire to pitch on the East coast to be near his family (while admirable its a mark against us obviously)

Re: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
Not that either of them are likely to happen but I can't help but think how solid this roster would be with Vazquez and Upton added to it. I actually have spent an inordinate amount of time doing so. It's like I can't stop. Even though I know it's virtually immpossible and even highly unlikely we add one I can't get it out of my mind. RE: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
No offense, but I wish we would stop with this nonsense of wanting Stanton or Upton. The chances of it happening are pretty much zero. Vazquez has a greater chance of happening. I would offer him a major league deal and dump Hoch in a trade or release.

RE: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
I think Vazquez has mentioned that he wants to start again (pretty sure). None of those teams except the Royals can almost guarantee him a spot in the rotation. Coming back mid-season might be an option for him, but I think since he claims he has kept in shape and went to go throw is an obvious sign that he wants to sign in the off-season and not later. The Royals need to capitalize on this opportunity.

Pretty sure everyone has stated that they know there's no chance of getting either one.

I'd rather give him a million dollars than Tejada. It's obvious the royals still have some money to waste.

RE: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
Vasquez as I recall had a tendency to tire down the strech. A good pitcher before the All Star break, he had a couple of seasons with the Yankees but couldn't win the big games down the strech. Its tough for a slender righty at old Yankee stadium. While he's lights out now, its a long season and it gets cold in September here. Maybe if he fades in the Fall another of our IR starters can fill the void. Out of the gate he will be dynamite probably. Thats Javy.

Here are some fun and interesting and very surface numbers to look at in 2011 :) In 2011 - His ERA went down every month. March/April - 6.4 May - 5.67 June - 5.52 July - 3.1 August - 2.4 September - 0.71 His number of innings pitched per month actually went UP every month, beginning at 25 and ending at 40 in August (38 in September, close enough!) His strikeout totals went up every month, while his BB went down. He was a much better pitcher down the stretch in 2011.

His MPH also jumped in the latter half of 2011 from 88.8 to 91.5 --------------------------------------------- --- youngrfan wrote: LAROYAL wrote: Vasquez as I recall had a tendency to tire down the strech. LAROYAL I don't know what you are talking about he had bad ending months for 10,08, and 04 I believe. He has been good for those other years. He doesn't have a good ERA in the post season though if that is what you are talking about. That is why we have depth so if somebody gets in trouble the next guy can pick him up.

I am not that worried about his age. He is light years better then Hoch or Chen. I don't normally like older pitchers, but he knows how to get the job done. Not sure what it would cost to get him though.

RE: Royals watched Javy Vazquez pitch today
Came to this conclusion on Javy Vasquez. I don't think he has much left in the tank and don't really know how much he can help the 2013 Royals. But I would like KC to give him a long look for this year's rotation.
If KC signs Vasquez, then Chen and/or Hochevar will not be Royals. I'm ok with Chen as 5th starter. In fact, he as probably overachieved in ways being the leader of KC's staff over last couple of years. Hochevar's absence will make the Royals move forward from an era that still permeates KC's culture. Lack of accountability for results and achievement even after the player (Hochevar in this case) has been given far too many opportunities. If the player can't/won't/doesn't get it done after given numerous chances, then he needs to move on.
Vasquez would help KC make this move. I also think that he could be tradeable if necessary during the stretch run. KC might have some starting depth returning if Duffy and Paulino come back early or if minor leaguer like Yordano Ventura, Will Smith or John Lamb continue to improve. Could also see Kyle Zimmer move quickly in 2013 even though this movement would be exceptionally quick.

Didn't pitch in 2012. Here are some fun and interesting and very surface numbers to look at in 2011 :)
