Re: brett myers to indians
Hope the Royals light him up as a Cleveland starter like they did as a Chicago reliever last year.

Re: brett myers to indians
I like it. Interestingly enough they have a staff that has the potential to be very competitive or possibly stink it up if they don't. The Cleveland Homer looks at their staff and says: - Masterson put up a nasty 3.21 in 216 innings just 1 year ago!
- If Ubaldo can just recapture his Rockies stuff when he put up a 2.88 in 221 innings in 2010 he would be a legit Ace for us.
- Myers put up a 3.14 in 220 innings in 2010 & his arm should be rested due to the few innings he threw from the bullpen last year.
- Bauer has the stuff to be a legit top of the rotation arm and has 3 guys in front of him to show him the ropes.
- McAllister/Kluber/Gomez are all young enough that at least 1 of them is bound to have a great spring training.
Realistically the Indians need a lot of breaks and guys to 'find themselves' to threaten in the division, but they have given themselves a punchers chance...kind of what we ourselves are asking for.... ie man I hope Santana & Davis can make it click this year.

RE: brett myers to indians
They also took a flyer on Scott Kasmir with an invite to Spring Training. If he could regain his velocity he could be a sleeper. They could be pretty good or pretty terrible depending on how things turn out for them.

RE: brett myers to indians
wishing we could take a kazmir type flyer on Javy Vasquez..but he is only likely to sign with a contender..and for a major league deal.
Without Hoch and Chen on our roster, i'd be game for grabbing him. good july 31st bait.

RE: brett myers to indians
Indians' rotation has some interesting guys if they turn it around. Both Masterson and Jiminez have career FIPs in the 3.8-4.0 range, but Jiminez in particular was awful last year. But, I would expect him to rebound some, perhaps like Santana. Bauer certainly has a lot of upside too. I think both the Royals and Indians have a lot of questionmarks in the rotation. The Indians have the potential to have a better rotation than the Royals.
The main problem I see for the Indians is that their offense is largely the same (Swisher minus Choo is an upgrade, but probably not an overwhelming one). Although the Royals and Indians were both pretty bad last year offensively, I would expect the Royals to take a big leap forward this year. I don't know if the Indians have improved their bullpen, but they were in the bottom 10 last year in ERA.

Re: brett myers to indians
The Indians staff is alot like the Royals staff's of past years... you can make a case it will be good if all the arms just pitch like they did a few years ago or meet their potential. Problem with that while its possible one guy can regain prior form its very difficult to turn around all 5 starters. I think they will be selling guys come july in part because of the rotation and in part because they have no offensive punch.

RE: brett myers to indians
For that much cash I would have expected more than Myers ability. I would have expected someone like Marcum who I think is better than Myers.
As Royals fan., glad to see Myers in AL Central - Royals hit well off him.

RE: brett myers to indians
I may be wrong, but I believe the other runs came against the Orioles. Somebody (can't remember who) on the Orioles eats him up and hit a home run against him (maybe Nate McLouth).
I think he is a useful piece to have but not at the price he got.

The guy pitched over 200 innings in both 2010 and 2011, wtf are people talking about, it was a great pickup for the Indians

Re: brett myers to indians
That was his worst year and was still a much better year than Hoch has ever had, I'd much rather pay Myers 7 million than pay Hoch 5 million to man the 5 spot --------------------------------------------- --- Gbwoy wrote: --------------------------------------------- --- RockChalkOmaHawk wrote: wilson123 wrote: The guy pitched over 200 innings in both 2010 and 2011, wtf are people talking about, it was a great pickup for the Indians Yeah that ERA+ of 85 in 2011 sure looks awesome. --------------------------------------------- Looks even better at 7 million per. ---------------------------------------------

Re: brett myers to indians
A perfectly valid point, but it has nothing at all to do with you insinuating Myers is a fantastic sign by the Indians.
Are you trolling?

Re: brett myers to indians
I think Myers has some talent and could help the Royals, but I don't know too many teams who pay their fifth starter 7 million per. And if the Royals had signed him and he ended up in the pen as a set-up man or even a closer (doubtful), maybe you could justify paying him big $$$, but for a guy without a sure role, I'd pass.
There are other guys out there for around 4 million who can pitch in relief, and that might be preferable to Myers. Matt Lindstrom, for one.
I am not going to get into a conversation about what the Royals payroll for 2013 should be, but it seems to me that they've probably done most of their heavy lifting in the off-season already. I doubt seriously that there will be more million dollar deals for them this off-season. Why Hoch is still on the team I have no idea, but the 4 - 5 million he'll get in arb could be used elsewhere to greater effect, IMHO. But you could have said the same thing about Frenchy and Getz, as many of you have.
The other point I'll make is the Royals really need Chen to pitch well as a starter for them. Too many good lefthanded hitters around for the Royals to seriously consider going with 5 righties as a rotation most of the year. I suspect Duffy will replace Erwin Santana and his salary in 2014 barring problems in Duffy's recovery, and if Duffy can pitch some down the stretch in 2013, so much the better.
