MLB.tv
Okay, I plan on doing it this year. I don't have cable or satellite in the family budget, but I think I can hook a computer tower up to my tv and watch that way. Just a few questions for anyone who's been down this road.
1) How reliable is it?
2) How much is a proxy server?
3) How do you set up a proxy server?

Re: MLB.tv
It's pretty reliable. The few times that it had problems, they emailed an apology, which included a nice discount on stuff at the MLB store.
I know nuttin' about proxy servers. I watch it through my Roku box (about $60 or $70), which gets the feed through my wireless network.
Where are you located? Be sure you check the blackout map on the MLB.tv site, as their blackout rules suck balls.

That's the issue. I live in KC and I don't want Time Warner.

Re: MLB.tv
You figure this out and get it set up right, let me know how you did it. I too want to drop Time Warner, and the only thing keeping me from doing so is MLB's ludicrous blackout policy on the Extra Innings package.

RE: MLB.tv
I did not have success using a proxy server last year with mlbtv on my laptop. I did, however, use a fake gps app to bypass the black out on my phone, which was badass. I was literally watching the royals tv broadcast on my phone while sitting 50 feet behind Frenchy on the party deck.

Also, I was able to watch Royals games through mlb.tv on my ps3. White Sox and Cubs games were blacked out. I have no idea why.

Oh, and about proxy servers: just google a list of proxy servers and try them out. Web sites have them available for free. Google how to use a proxy server. It's fairly simple. I did it successfully a few years ago, but I think it's harder to do now. I tried last year with about 30 different IP addresses and none of them worked.

To get a reliable proxy server with a decent speed, you're likely going to have to pay for it. This is what I did last year, and it worked great. The only problem I had was that I wanted to have my Xbox use it, but couldn't figure out how to do that. Here are a few things to note: - Sign up for one that has a trial period, and test the speed via speedtest.net.
- During the trial period, check the MLB.TV blackout page to see which teams are blacked out for the proxy server area. Pick one that has the fewest opponents played by the Royals (NL towns are the best choice).
- Set up a proxy.pac file on your pc, so only MLB traffic goes through the proxy server. This can be configured in Internet Exporer settings (other browsers use IE's settings for this).
Good luck!
Lends ChiTown dollars to keep buying that

RE: MLB.tv
I can only speak to the issue of quality (since i'm in TX, I don't have to worry about proxy), but I found mlb.tv one of the most cost-worthy sports packages I've ever purchased. LOVED it. The HD quality surprised me...very clean and reliable w/ the exception of twice last season.

Good luck! You know your ****. And I agree with dallas, it's well worth it, especially if you have a Roku/ps3/360 to stream it through

In the Middle-East we used ExpressVPN to be able to use Skype/Adult websites. It's $13-14/mo, but it's fast and no ad's to get i the way.

RE: MLB.tv
I'm thinking about doing the mlb package via my ps3 this year...I believe you can watch replays of all the games as they are blacked out in the kc area...but they show replays after the games that are in market/blacked out...or that's what someone told me I think?
I don't really want to jack with going through proxys and all that stuff...and I'm not currently paying for cable and don't want to go back to it...

Re: MLB.tv
I have a real slow computer so I had to play games with the HD feature or the games would not show, by toggling HD on and off. This took me about a month to figure out. Sometimes there are interruptions and you have to reboot. It was worse 2 years ago, slightly better last year and should be improved this year. It was $100 bucks for the season. I like reviewing the game a couple of hours after live. The highlight feature of the game is nice. Also you can zip through to the run scoring innings or isolate a reliever's inning or two. That is real good coverage. I'm in LosAngeles so I rarely get blacked out. Worth it for the diehard.

RE: MLB.tv
You guys saying I can get a streaming device and it would be better than hooking a computer up to my t.v.?
Also, I currently just use a mifi for internet, but I wouldn't have near enough data for this. Thoughts on the most bang for your buck to support the data part of this?

I would look for a device that will stream. I have a PS3 which offers many streaming options...mlb, nfl, nhl I think, netflix, hulu, amazon, etc..... I don't know if MLB is supported on other devices like a Roku? Or some of the Blu Ray devices with wifi streaming?
