Thanks Rany, for your rant on Christmas Eve
While Rany (of Rany on the Royals) is praying for the people of Syria, most of the rest of us are enjoying Christmas with our families and friends.
Timing wise, I am somewhat irked that Rany came on with a posting on Christmas Eve on his personal blog "Rany on the Royals" in defense of his angry outrage of the Myers-Shields trade posting he did on a blog on Grantland.
I would respond in full after Christmas!
By the way, Merry Christmas everyone!

While I may dislike some of Rany's rants, your post was low. I think you may need to evaluate your response and the timing of it along with your implied suggestions. Happy holidays to ALL!

RE: Thanks Rany, for your rant on Christmas Eve
I think you're being a little sensitive. He's a busy guy and I'm sure he posts stuff for his second job when he has time. And as a muslim and a employer (who likely gave his christian employees off work) he probably had a good amount of time on his hands today.
To be frank, if Christmas is that important to you you shouldn't be wasting your time reading blog posts, reading RR, or posting anything, when you could be either spending it with your family or resting in anticipation of your holiday tomorrow (today)

This thread is mind blowing. And you better log off the computer before Christians worldwide get offended by your computer use on this most holiest of days.

I thought the most holiest of days was January 20th. Or is it April 15th?

RE: Thanks Rany, for your rant on Christmas Eve
The high holy days this year are February 14 (pitchers and catchers report) and Opening Day.
Thought I'd clarify that for you.
Merry Christmas, everybody.

RE: Thanks Rany, for your rant on Christmas Eve
I think Rany finally laid out a somewhat compelling case as to why he was against the trade, and why it might not work out as the Royals hope. I also take him at his word that he'll be happy to be wrong about it.
But I still don't think he has any idea about what "moral hazard" actually is. Oh, he produced a textbook definition that it's the "danger that lurks when a person in a position of influence finds that their own self-interest diverges from the interest of the organization they work for." That part is accurate. But it still doesn't apply in this case, because the goal -- "Win More Games Next Year" -- was set not by DM, but by the man he works for. The man who owns the "organization." The man who decides what that organization's "interests" are. And if it doesn't work, DM will be held accountable.
Sure, you can argue that the trade wasn't in the best long term interests of the organization. But it has nothing to do with moral hazard.

RC, that's a good point. If the organization wasn't buying into the "win now" plan, Mr. Glass could have kept the payroll much lower. There are solid arguments for and against making the trade for James Shields and Wade Davis right now versus waiting one year. But, I think the Royals were going to have to part with one of their young bats at some point to acquire an ace.

RE: Thanks Rany, for your rant on Christmas Eve
I think DM being on hot seat is way overblown. He used a twitter post citing someone's hearsay.....who the heck knows what Glass thinks of DM. He might think he's doing a great job building a young exciting team that draws enough fans to keep Glass happy....he might objectively think DM has bought the franchise a long ways since 2006. Rany's analysis, although solid at times, is filled with a fans emotionalism and is the best argument against why some view "bloggers" as something less than a true journalist or editorial writer...I don't agree about the argument against blogs, but he's not helping the cause with "This sucks" or "I'm taking my ball and going home" writing.....which he has done several times now..... --------------------------------------------- --- RoyalsCorner wrote:

By the way, Merry Christmas everyone! Why did you bother typing in ranyontheroyals.com into your browser on Christmas Eve and reading the rather lengthy blog posting if it was going to irk you?

That rat bastard... I also found the "praying for the people of Syria" bit pretty offensive. WTF Rany?
