Yeah, you realize that they want OF help and that probably means Wil Myers. Add the fact that Dickey only has one year left before he hits FA means any progression in these talks is probably not good news for Royals fans.

I would not mind having Dickey on the staff. I have no clue what it would take to get him. Lough? Cain? We don't really have a catcher we can deal, do we?

Also, Heyman is a terrible writer.

guess you shoulda read the article. It likely won't take Wil Myers.

Dickey is 1 year for $5 million

In their budget. and could be had for a package of young prospects

Ventura and Monty probably get him....or maybe I'm pipe dreaming....No way I give up Myers for him....

Also, I have seen quotes that Dickey is not looking for much in the way of extension...something like 2/$20.

If we could work an extension out for 2 more years before a trade, I'd give up anything not named Wil Myers and keep all our position players.

Makes too much sense?? The guy was 41 - 50 before this year!!
Just because he won this year means no success the rest of the
time -- would MUCH rather trade for Shields or Lester who are YOUNGER!!

We really can't help them with catching or outfield help. Gordon, Myers, and Cain aren't going anywhere for a 1 year rental of a 38 year old pitcher, and Perez is the only catcher we have that would interest anyone, and he's not going anywhere for anyone. They won't want Francouer, Lough wouldn't be enough.

Maybe, just maybe, they'd be interested in Dyson if we also give them some relief pitching help, such as Crow or Coleman, but I doubt any team sees Dyson as a starting center fielder.

The 1980s called, and they would like their method of pitcher evaluation back.

2012: 233.2 IP, 2.73 ERA
2011: 208.2 IP, 3.28 ERA
2010: 174.1 IP, 2.84 ERA

Sure, his K rate isn't likely to stay at almost 9 per 9 innings, but he's been a very good pitcher each of the last 3 seasons.

It wouldn't take Myers, but it would be more than Ventura and Monty.  He just won the Cy Young and is due only 5MM next year.  Only having 1 year of control and his age and knuckleball weirdness lowers his value, but he's easily a cheap FOR pitcher for another year which carries a great deal of value to a number of teams.

Something like Cain + Odorizzi/Ventura + Adam/Calixte/Bonifacio might do it.

Mondesi Bonficiao Cuthbert Colon are the type of guys that should be discussed...I could even see Cain and a reliever...Not too long ago he was on the scrap heap and didn't fair as well when pitching in the AL

I wouldn't mind having Dickey on the staff but lets not call him an ace, thats just"putting lipstick on a pig". I also have no interest in trading Ventura or any other upper level prospects for him. Maybe I'm just skeptical but I don't trust knuckle ball pitchers to be much more than back end starters, no matter how good Wakefield had his knuckle working there were games he didn't make it two innings.

Cain better not be traded for a 1 year rental.

I'd offer something like Dyson, Crow, Colon and see if they'd bite.

And in a total fantasy world, try to get them to take Francouer too.

Lester last 3 years, 42-32, 3.85 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 112 ERA+, 2.54 K/BB
Shields last 3 years, 44-37, 3.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 102 ERA+, 3.65 K/BB

It means:

A. They are the Mets. They rarely do the smartest things.
B. They want to get value out of him because they aren't going to win next year.
C. He may have already told them that he is not interested in signing an extension with them.

As a reminder, Dickey has no UCL, so we don't have to worry about Tommy John.

I think RA dickey is a good move... hes fairly cheap, I think you could extend him pretty easily if you wanted to, and youd have the payroll room to add a FA, or another trade
