FA SIGNING: Marion meets with Bird, IND $1.7M from luxury tax

Free agent forward Shawn Marion is leaning strongly toward signing with Cleveland over Indiana, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

As @daldridgetnt reports, Pacers applying for Disabled Players Exception of $5.3M for George injury. Indy could offer Marion more than Cavs.

Marion hasn't formalized agreement with Cavs yet, but Indiana's already looking elsewhere than Marion for free agent help, sources said.

Shawn won't ever have a championship as an NBA alpha, but if he gets a second ship, playing a major role with a second to team, it certainly increases his recognition as a player.. And I think he deserves that, so I hope he takes less and joins Cleveland. He has been underrated mostly in his career and I think he values his legacy. He has enough left to play as a back up to Lebron and a specialist at times along side him. Dirk will have to destroy him in the finals tho. It will be cool to go up against Matrix/Haywood next June.

Actually, if the Mavs meet the Cavs in the Finals, I will be on my knees praying that Kamm and his fellow naysayers were right about Marion's defensive abilities being pretty much gone. Otherwise the Mavs would be in for a long series.
There are two kinds of fans of the '14-'15 Mavs - Wright fans, and wrong fans. ************* Give CP hate a rest and enjoy this ride.

1) Addition by subtraction for the Mavs.

2) Subtraction by addition for the Cavs.

Makes sense.  If he took the money in IND he'd have to wait a year to have a chance to contend, and that's if Paul George comes back 100%.  Sad to see Marion gone, but at least he will get to play for another ring.  Of course the Mavs come first, but I would not be upset if Cleveland won the title next year.

Last I heard, maybe yesterday, was that the earliest return for George was about 18 months. Or maybe it was as much as 18...I forget.

Don't ruin this for me! Happiest Mavs moment in three years!

Anyone else think that Marion looks like Mufasa from Haml... I mean Disney's the Lion King?
