Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Numbers not good for CC in Chicago, and not against the White Sox in general.
Chisenhall gets benched after the homer, not Kipnis and Holt gets the start with Bourn leading off again.  Maybe Bourn can build on Tuesday's game and finally figure out how to hit LHP.
Kipnis played well on Tuesday too, but again, if he is hurt, a day off here would be a good thing.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Runner on third and no outs and JRam up, BUNT!!tongue
Somehow Bourn has figured out how to hit lefties all of a sudden, Francona's faith is realized.  Triple to start the game on the second pitch, going the other way.
JRam gets ahead 2-0 but starts fouling pitches away, including the pitch after 2-0 which looked like a pitcher's pitch.  JRam needs to be a little more selective, AAA pitchers must have horrible control for him to have a good BB rate the way he swings.  JRam brings in Bourn with a groundout on the 8th pitch.  THat pitch was also borderline, but I guess with two strikes, you have to protect.

Brantley swings at a 2-1 pitch below the knees and predictably grounds out.  He is struggling a little bit, wonder if a day off once the rosters expand might be in order.

Twins take an early 2-0 lead, but we all know that is not going to stand because these Royals are like the new 2001 Yankers.

Santana grounds out to the pitcher "sharply", nice to see him take it back up the middle.  Now it is up to CC.

Sigh, CC starts off eaton 2-0.  bangheadbanghead
Milone lets AOki get on with a leadoff hit, but then Escobar messes up the sac bunt and Aoki is forced out.  still a runner on for the Yank...Royals...sorry I meant Royals.
@#$@%@#$ CC gets the count to 2-2 but ends up walking Eaton on 7 pitches, @#$@%@.  ALl Fastballs 97-99.  Just left three of them too high.bangheadbanghead

Jason Baerga just can't quite reach that blooper (darn that oblique), and possible big inning is born.

Cc's PC is piling up against Abreu, can't put him away!  1-2 count throwing fastballs on the inside corner, sliders on the outside and off the outside, this is not going to end well.bangheadbangheadbanghead

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

And CC proves he is better than Klubot and wins the battle by getting Abreu to flyout and Eaton doesn't advance.  Now has to make sure he doesn't make a mistake to DUnn.  Fastballs 99 and 98 on the outside and lower third of the zone gets the count to 0-2.  The CC wastes a pitch with a slider too far out of the zone that DUnn has no interest in chasing low and in, and then comes back with a fastball on the inside corner that gets the second out, Eaton goes to third.
NOw CC has to bear down and get that third out.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Garcia swings at a fastball that almost hits him, it looks like CC has a lot of run on that pitch.  The Garcia swings on a pitch that goes the exact opposite direction, slider low and away.  Ramirez steals second.  Doesn't matter as Garcia doesn't learn on the previous pitch and swings at another slider one inch furthre out of the zone than the previous one!

CC gets out of it but his PC is 22.

And in KC, as expected, 2-0 lead by the Twins holds up for exactly .1 inning.bangheadbangheadbanghead

Kipnis works a full-count walk.  Wow...did Kipnis and Bournfind the hitting against LHP switch that Chisenhall found earlier in the year?

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Wow what a shocker, no bunt by Aviles, and he rewards Francona's confidence with a routine flyout to CF on the first pitch.
Walters follows with another first pitch flyout to LF.  AT least this one goes to the wall.  Just misses a homer.bangheadbangheadbanghead   In fact just saw the replay, he was robbed by DeAza, and there was almost a collision as Eaton was there too but DeAza is a lot taller than Eaton so he jumped over Eaton to make the catch.  Announcers said there is a stiff wind coming in and that kept it in the ballpark. bangheadbangheadbanghead
Holt uses a few more pitches to finally ground out "sharply" to Danks.  It looks like Danks is making a run for GG.  TOo bad Kluber didn't field his position as well or we would have still been tied probably.  ABreu's game-winning single bounced straight over the rubber about 4 feet over the rubber, unfortunately Kluber's follow-through did not allow him to straighten full before the ball came back at him so he kept his head/body down and tried to stick his glove up.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Odd Gameday has CC's velocity suddenly dropping down to 91-92 on the fastballs, unless those are his sliders and Gameday has broken as it can't comprehend a low 90s breaking pitch.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

Ugh, CC can't finish off GIllaspie, started 0-2 and now 3-2 as he barely misses on three balls and Gillaspie doesn't swing at any of the pitches.  CC just goes with #1 and gets a GO on a 97 FB.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

And CC busts out the back-away slider after throwing a fastball up and in that was fouled off, classic baseball 101.  That was what we were taught in LIttle League, the curves should start at the hitter so that it will break into the zone and be a strike, and the hitter will be frozen by the ball coming at him he won't get a good swing.

Re: Game 132: Can CC reverse the trend?

DeAza sees two fastballs, second one is grounded to SS for the out.
CC seems back on track after a shaky first, of course the bottom of the lineup is no where near the quality of the top.

KC gets a leadoff single, but the runner only gets to 2nd.
