Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Seriously, Bourn leading off against a lefty?!  SERIOUSLY?!  COME ON FRANCONA STOP BABYING THESE OVERPAID VETS AND DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE TEAM!!!! bangheadbangheadbangheadbanghead

Kipnis hitting 5th again against a LEFTY?!  Chisenhall who was slumping, but hitting better than Kipnis so far this year against lefties in spite of his slump being benched? disbelief

For all the freaking excuses given to Kipnis and how it is his oblique that is hurting him, why don't they give him more days off?  HE HAS HAD ONE GAME DAY OFF SINCE THE ASB!!!  Wouldn't that be the LOGICAL THING TO DO INSTEAD OF HAVING HIM BE A LIABILITY OUT IN THE FIELD AND AT THE PLATE!  OR HAVE HIM DH AND LET WALTERS PLAY THE FIELD!

Kipnis is not hurt. It's an excuse.

I might also add that Jason's performance on Sunday was one of his best recently, and that it came off a southpaw was encouraging. Chisenhall also hit well against the lefty, but I just knew one of these guys would sit in favor of Aviles, warranted or not.

Yeah we knew it was going to happen, but still unsure why Kipnis is getting such a pass (especially if he is "hurt") from Francona while Chisenhall is the automatic sit against LHP.

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Zach has tossed 4 hitless innings so far against Toledo tonight, walking one and striking out three. 1-0 Columbus by virtue of Jesus Aguilar's 19th homer. (Aguilar hit a three run homer in the bottom of the 10th with the Tribe trailing, so he's hit two homers in two AB's over two games. Jesus wouldn't have had a chance last night were it not for Matt Carson's two-out game tying homer in the bottom of the 9th).

Urshela 1 for 2, Lindor 0 for 2 so far.

Ramsey was hit by a pitch last night and lifted, and isn't in the lineup tonight.

Well, we wasted a week of the schedule getting back to three over .500, and for the third time we'll have a chance to get four over for the first time all year (the Yankees, by the way, are at seven over for the first time all year, and I'm rooting for them to go eight over tonight).

Let's hope the third time is the charm for the Tribe. "Taking series" no longer an applicable adage. We need some sweeps; taking 2 of 3 against the lesser teams isn't going to do it.

Jaron Long, ex-Buckeye hurler (and the son of the Yankees' hitting coach Kevin) struck out Jason Giambi in his first rehab AB tonight.

...and in his second as well.

Not going to matter, Giambi going to start at DH on September 1. tongue

Bourn actually making contact with off-speed breaking stuff from a lefty.  Probably the saving grace is they are over 80 MPH, not under.
Well, Bourn shows Francona is a genius, takes a low outside fastball opposite way and hits one over the left-field wall...on a bounce.
Just as impressive that was on a 7 pitch AB after falling behind 0-2 on the first two pitches.

And Francona expects House to pitch a shutout as be has JRam sac bunt.  I am mixed, but I think i have faith in JRam to take it the other way and be able to move Bourn over with a GO to the right side at least.

Umm...why bother pretending that you have two different team tweeters from Gameday when they are repeating the same thing verbatim on their tweets.

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Well I guess Quintana didn't want to waste 4 pitches to walk Brantley, so he hits him with the second pitch.  SEtting up the GIDP for Mr. Overswinger himself Santana.  And Santana overswings on an inside fastball (third fastball in a row) and doubles in Bourn sending Brantley to 3rd.  That was some bad pitching selection by the ChiSox, three straight fastballs to the inner half to a dead pull hitter?

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Well at least Kipnis didn't K with 2 strikes and got the productive out.  #smallsteps.
Aviles now with a shot to help extend the lead, getting a bigger cushion will be helpful with House facing all the RHHs in this lineup.

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

And Aviles comes through with his patented "soft line drive" to the outfield where he pulls off the ball and somehow makes contact off the end of the bat to lift it over the infield!

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Odd, QUintana just throwing hard stuff at Walters, went 3-1 and then got the knee-high call for strike two.  Walters fouls off a belt high fastball and the inside outs a low inside fastball for an infield single to the 1Bman...man I want to see the replay on that!
Well they can't say Walters swings at everything he laid off the better pitcher's pitch with one strike to give and took three high and wide.

Who says if you "play for only one" that's all you'll get?

Re: Game 130: Francona still has not learned

Coaching visit refocuses Quintana who throws two fastball strikes on the paint on the outside corner to Holt.  Then can't get Holt to chase two curveballs in the dirt low and in.  Stopped by the catcher preventing the runners to advance.  Then locks up Holt on a fastball at the knees on the outer half.
I think the Indians have just outscored their average runs scored in the last ten games in the first inning.  You know what that means, no more hits the rest of the game.tongue

Walters hit a Baltimore chop making it a hard play for the firstbaseman to get it to Quintana quickly.

Bourn's hit didn't go over the left field fence...it went over the wall in foul territory.  It was  big slicer that was barely fair, if it was fair at all.

Ahh the HBP on the next batter threw off the whole dynamic haha.
I am a little surprised people want to be dismissive of House, he definitely needs a third pitch, but his low-90s fastball seems to have some tail on it on Gameday and he his control and command is comparable to Tomlin IMO.
OMG Jose Abreu's hit zone on gameday is ridiculous.  All red squares except a square of white up and in.
