Game 98: Smyles against a sweep?

Looks like it, no-hitting Indians after 2 and Tomlin giving up non-HR runs.  Indians lack of fundamentals rears its head, Kindler getting to second on his RBI single costs the Indians a run.banghead

Geezus why the hell was Tomlin throwing over to 1st so much with 2 outs and 2 strikes?  How idiotic!  And of course he makes a mistake and gives up the gopher ball.  Seriously it was JD Martinez at 1st not Billy Hamilton or something!bangheadbangheadbanghead
Stupid tactical decision.

Anyone have an explanation why you leave a player like Chisenhall who has been hitting LHP well on the bench in the favor of Murphy who struggles?

Too bad we can't carry Holt and Dickerson for situations like this.  Santana's concussion situation and Swisher's inability to play RF now hurts.

Does Tomlin have any trade value?  He's in the way of guys much more talented than himself here.

The only way I think a team would make a move for him is if they see value for him out of the bullpen. Tomlin is a solid back of the rotation guy. Teams just don't really trade for that role very often unless he is thrown in with anther trade I don't see him moving

Rest assured, he'll be shoved aside as soon as there's someone viable.  If you truly think there are five starters in on our team pitching demonstrably and consistently better than Tomlin is, you must be seeing something I'm not. Before today, Tomlin had a 3.89 FIP with a 1.116 WHIP, and one walk and eight K's per nine innings. Exactly who is better that he's standing in the way of?  Today he had a difficult, but somewhat unlucky outing against an excellent hitting team that was not only due but desperate to avoid a sweep.  It happens.

Listen, I see Tomlin's future as being a very good Scott Atchison-type guy coming out of the bullpen and bouncing around baseball for ten more years.  But I don't shove him out of our rotation until there's someone clearly better, and that guy hasn't shown up yet.  I like House and I like Salazar, but it's not like they've busted down the door in the shots they've been given.  "Talent" assessment is a nice concept and all, but in the circumstance we're in right now, performance should be given priority.  TJ and Danny get their chance this week in Minnesota.  Let's see how they do against struggling lineups.
