Game 83: Another shutout Beckons...

Game 83: Another shutout Beckons...

Amazingly, the Indians are able to resist the temptation and get a Brantley RBI double and a Chisenhall 2-run homer to take a 3-0 lead.
Now it is up to Masterson, I hope Carrasco is ready to go for some long relief because my confidence in Masterson is not that high.
Wow...maybe it is time to talk to Swisher about accepting reassignment to AAA because he is awful, Ks on a changeup after only seeing changeups and curveballs on the previous three pitches.ohlord

Re: Game 83: Another shutout Beckons...

Carrasco has to get warmed up, Masterson just gave up a two run homer to Gonzalez. bangheadbangheadbanghead
He must be the worst pitcher on the staff in terms of getting a shut down inning after getting runs scored for him.
Geezus i have no idea if we should even offer him a QO at this time.
Now he is ALL over the place.  They should have freaking DL'd him and recalled McAllister.
Swisher making all kinds of plays today...after K'ing on a freaking changeup, Swisher just drops a lob throw from Masterson that should have been the third out.  Yeah, again, it is time to seriously think about benching Swisher and calling up Aguilar and cutting Raburn (unfortunately just cutting Swisher would be too costly).
And now Masterson walks the next two batters...going 3-2 to both, the last ball 4 no where close to the KZone.
Who...sorry to say but this is why I wanted more pitching. flushed
Masterson somehow gives up only two runs and is able to throw three strikes to a batter.
HIs pitch count went up about 15+ pitches because Swisher is...(fill in the blank).

Murphy breaks his 0-fer slump with an infield cue shot to 3B, goes to second on a Masterson sac bunt but Bourn stares down a 92 MPH waist high fastball on the outer half.  Have no idea WTH he was looking at.

Re: Game 83: Another shutout Beckons...

Masterson has become so bad he gives up a freaking legit double to Beckett.
Then a double down the LF line that bounces back into play quickly enough so that Beckett stops at 3rd.  However, you are still stuck with 2nd and 3rd and no outs with Puig, Gonzalez and Kemp coming up.  This is freaking ridiculous, they have to call Carlos soon.
Masterson Ks Puig, IBB Gonzalez, Ks Kemp...but I bet you Ethier rips Masterson.  It would just be exactly what always happens to the Indians.

Can someone please tell me what all the confusion was about? That was a simple triple play. Okay, maybe not so simple, but clearly a triple play.

Oh, and don't triple plays make managers look like geniuses? (Crockett in for Masterson)

There really wasn't any confusion, just a couple of reviews.  Initially the 3rd out (the runner trying to make it into 2nd after the out at home) was ruled safe.  The Indians challenged and the call was overturned making the 3rd out.  Then the Dodgers challenged the 2nd out at home.  That was upheld as an out, confirming the triple play.

Sooner or later, teams are going to stop running on Gomes. Or I guess he can just keep gunning 'em down.

{chuckle}  Looking at his stats this year, I don't think he has a lot of fans in the stands in LA either.   But then, it looks like he has Axford's role over there.  How the mighty "proven closer" has fallen.

if there was ever a game that called for carlos carrasco to log 4-5 innings, this was it. this thing francona has about him has got to stop, or they might as well trade him to someone who'll use him.

I agree...although I guess this time it is slightly defensible since so few pitchers had been used.  I am hoping they are seriously considering working Carlos back up to give him a starting gig and either putting Masterson on the DL, or...even more drastic, does he have options left a la Lee in 2007?

he has no options, which was the biggest reason he made the rotation out of spring training. if they DL masterson, i'd expect to see mcallister. carrasco is done as a starter in 2014, unless they run out of other options.

NO I meant Masterson, does he have options?  He might need either a DL or revamp like Lee did in 2007.  It is definitely a long shot for him to go back in the rotation, just hopeful he gets a shot or at least gets a chance to pitch!

i seriously doubt masterson has any options. he was up and down with red sox. it'll have to be DL, i think.

Yeah DL at the minimum at this point.  I wonder if he is trying to gut it out because he is afraid it is going to require surgery and put him on the shelf in his FA year.

I would send him down for McAllister at the next rotation spot or put him on the DL.  If he has knee problems then he has to rehab and then he has to show that he can get through game(s) without it flaring up before they can risk putting him in the lineup again.
The way that they keep playing with it, I am thinking it is a possible surgery type of issue and he doesn't want to go under the knife and mess with his FA.
