Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Red Sox have won eight in a row after dropping ten straight.  Time for them to start another streak and for the Tribe to continue theirs. I really can't stand the Sawx and hope the featherheads can find a way to take this series.  The pitching matchups look decent, and our lineup is looking better...I believe Boston fans think they can waltz into Cleveland and take care of business...well, they've got another thing comin'.

Boston

Holt 1B
Bogaerts 3B
Pedroia 2B
Ortiz DH
Pierzynski C
Gomes LF
Sizemore RF
Drew SS
Bradley Jr CF

Lackey P

Tribe

Bourn CF
Cabrera SS
Brantley LF
Kipnis 2B
Chisenhall 1B
Giambi DH
Gomes C
Murphy RF
Aviles 3B

Masterson P

Red Sox with six LH hitters in the lineup (could have had one more had they opted for Nava instead of Gomes) so Justin better be on his game, especially since the RH are no slouches.

This game represents the return of Stephen Drew to the Boston lineup.  That should tighten up their defense, unfortunately.

Oh, did I say I can't stand the Sox?  How about Lackey?  Did I say how annoying he is with his perpetual grouse face?

Let's go get these guys.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

My fear is our inability to do anything against Lackey...crafty veterans have been giving us fits because we are not able to adjust and go the other way.
Also, Masterson has MAJOR issues against lefties, and Ortiz and Pier@#$@% both hit from that side.

A tidy and efficient first for Justin.

We will pound Lackey tonight. Pound him.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Our worst fears are realized, Masterson can't find the zone at all.  Bases loaded two outs and starts out 3-0 to Gomes.  Gets it to 3-1 but it takes an 89 MPH pitch down the middle.bangheadbangheadbanghead
Gomes taking all the way, takes another 89 MPH pitch down the middle for strike 2.
Yeah not a good sign...I am guessing a double.
HAHAHAHA...the BoSox must not have believed Masterson could throw three straight strikes, Gomes takes a third strike on a 91 MPH fastball.tongue
Hopefully Masterson is working in reverse of his trend and gets better with more pitches because if that is his best...Carlos should just start the second inning already.

Wow...Who will be happy, Bourn takes a walk, and steals second on the first pitch!

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

@#$@^@#$@ ACab really just can't hit with RISP.  GEezus, all he needs to do is pull a pitch to RF or the right side of the infield, instead he does the WORST thing possible, K!
I think that every time a runner is on second with no outs, ACab should just bunt.  Geezus.bangheadbangheadbanghead
The pitch was no where near the KZone and according to Pitch F/X, only had a nasty factor of 27...horrible AB.
This is the freaking start of how things snowball and the pitcher comes out and dominates the rest of the game, horrible fundamentals by a hitter when the team is a prime position to score a run. bangheadbanghead
Brantley walks...smart move by Lackey.  You definitely would rather face Kipnis than Brantley.
All Kipnis can do is GO to the 1Bman.  Yeah, ACab if you actually moved the runner over like you should have, it would be 1-0 right now.  Now it is up to Chisenhall...but he is due for regression. flushed
Haha...never mind, Chisenhall must have renewed his account with the BABIP Gods as he gets a bloop liner down the LF line for two RBIs! noidea
Giambi hits one a little too high so Gomes is able to come in and make the catch.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Masterson rewards the offense with way too many pitches thrown, this is ridiculous.  Uses up 7 pitches to Sizemore, than freaking walks Drew on 5 pitches after getting ahead 0-1 bangheadbangheadbanghead
Geezus, Masterson is definitely the epitome of a non-Ace.  I am beginning to wonder whether it is a good thing even offer a QO.  I guess if the FO decides not to, it is best to trade him and see what we can get.

Masterson gets Bradley with a swinging strikeout, but runs the count full to Holt.ohlord
Kipnis shows he hasn't missed a beat with the team on defense by bobbling an easy grounder and almost doesn't get Holt. ohlord

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Gomes Ks, Murphy singles, Aviles GIDPs.
Boegarts Ks, Pedroia singles, Ortiz walks on 4 straight, and Pier@#$#@% amazingly goes after the first pitch and GIDPs.  Wow...I guess his Indians killer instincts might be tied to his uniform either being a Ranger or a ChiSox.
Bourn rips a pitch into dead center over Bradley and Bourn says screw depending on ACab to get me over to third and goes in with a slide for a triple.  For ACab, what a difference between a runner on 3rd and a runner on 2nd, ACab grounds a ball through the 1B/2B hole for an RBI single.
Brantley got jammed on a 1-1 pitch, chops one to 1B, throw to 2B, and the relay is called safe by the 1B ump.  Red Sox challenge.  Hamilton says it is close.  Replay official overturns, so Brantley GIDPs.  IF there is one thing that I would like to see if he can improve on is Brantley needs to work on his quick-twitch muscles and increase his speed.  He has good top-end speed, but he doesn't get from home to first very quickly.  KIpnis sends one much easier to 1B this time, saw a replay on his first ground out and the 1Bman did one of those do-or-die sweep glove moves to make the play in the first inning.
3-0 Indians, wonder if Masterson can hold it.flushed

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Masterson suddenly finds his slider, Ks Gomes and Sizemore on 6 pitches...make that Drew on NINE pitches.
Wow...hopefully it isn't the great performance before the fall.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

On a side note, guess who is in the Red Sox bullpen, Edward Mujica, yeah the guy who was the closer for St. Louis last year and that a lot of forum posters were holding up as the new poster child of how the FO sucks..he now has a 6.10 ERA!  Not sure if it is the fact the Cardinals are in the NL or if it is just because they are the Cardinals, but it makes you wonder....Busch must add something extra to the beer for Cardinals players or something.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Chisenhall hits a hard-hit liner that forces GOmes to his knees for an out.  I guess that is how the BABIP game works, a weaker hit ball goes for a hit, a harder hit ball goes for an out.  The Indians and Chisenhall I am sure will definitely take the tradeoff.
Giambi sends one to the warning track in LF.  Gomes GO to SS.
Now it is time for Masterson to show that last inning was not a fluke.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Uh-oh...Masterson doesn't K Bradley, but gets the out on a liner to CF.  Holt is up, I wonder if he is related to the Indians prospect Holt.  Holt is down 0-2, fouls off two pitches then GO to Masterson.  Boegaerts goes down swinging on a slider.  Uh-oh...he is slipping, not as efficient as the previous inning! tongue
Man...we are rightfully impressed by Lindor, but geezus Boegaerts minor league stats are unreal.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Murphy leads off the B5 with a single past the SS.  Looks like he is getting hot again.
Aviles freaking gets himself jammed on the first pitch and hits a GIDP ball to Boegaerts who bobbles but still gets Murphy at 2B. ohlord

Aviles goes for a steal, but Bourn checks his swing and fouls it off, ruining a stolen base attempt.  Then Bourn takes the next pitch through the 1B/2B hole for a single.  So I guess it works out.
Except again, ACab can't hit with a runner on 2B, it is ridiculous, 1st pitch GIDP...geezus, pitch was like at the knees or lower.bangheadbangheadbanghead

Yup...I am still on pins and needles.  Especially with "murderer's row" coming up for the BoSox. ohlord

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Even Gameday can't believe that ACab swung at the first pitch and GIDP'd, it is still stuck on his AB.
Masterson must have found something to fix between the 3rd and 4th innings, he Ks Pedroia on a high fastball.
So much for the shift, 2-1 pitch is grounded into RC field.  That is kind of sad.
Even sadder, for the BoSox, Piere#@$@% GIDPs again!

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Wow...Lackey gets Brantley swinging.  If it wasn't for yesterday's solid performance I would have been afraid Brantley was in a slump after getting his hitting streak snapped.
Kipnis gets a hit.  Kipnis then takes off for second and steals second sticking his hand in before the tag.
Chisenhall up now...I wonder if Chisenhall knew that Kipnis was going to run, he had swung on the first pitch his previous two ABs.
Chisenhall falls behind 0-2 now, 1-2, and a ground out to 1B, Hamilton described it as being hard-hit and a tough play for Holt at 1B.ohlord
Giambi can't get it done, GO to SS in the shift.

Re: Game 58: Streaks Colliding

Masterson just needs to hold for one more inning, 92 pitches going into the 7th.
Gomes actually makes contact on a 3-2 pitch and flies out.
Ks Sizemore swinging on a hanging slider after not getting the call on a backdoor slider the pitch before.
Drew goes down on a weak grounder to 1B.

SIgh...Francona going to Shaw again...3rd day in a row, 3IP in 2 days already.  Geezus, you have to start using Axford and Carlos!  Geezus, Axford hasn't pitched since the 27th, Carlos the 26th!  And then when you send them out there and they struggle, you blame them...can you say vicious cycle?! bangheadbanghead
And then after Lowe did a good job for a little while, he has one bad outing, you stop using him, and now option him for ANOTHER lefty, who you have no faith in because he can't throw strikes in Hagadone?!ohlord
Geezus and on cue, he gives up a homer into RC to Boegaerts.  You have to be kidding me.bangheadbanghead
Hanging cutter.
Gets Pedroia on a chopper to 2B, Scrabble in for Ortiz.
Scrabble gets Ortiz on a fly out into RC.
