Let me get this straight: Stubbs at leadoff and Gomes batting 8th? There has to be a better lineup construction by throwing names in a hat.

Stubbs is preferable to leading off over Aviles.

In any event, Francona prefers having speed at the top of the order and speed batting ninth.

So who do you think should hit first and ninth and where in between would you put Gomes?

Huh? And the link is to an article titled Milone set for spot start in rubber game vs. Tribe.

Oh, I understand why managers prefer speed at the top of the lineup, unfortunately that just means Stubbs will circle back to the dugout quicker than anyone else.

I'd bat Santana first and put Gomes in as clean-up, and bat Stubbs last.

I know, I know, you can't bat the slow guy first and you can't have a catcher bat clean-up, no matter how much it means more runs.  It just can't be done!

Stubbs is a lame ballplayer. There is nothing smart or instinctive about his game.

Stubbs gets on base v. LHP at a rate higher than Santana. If you wanted a slower guy up there (with a higher OBP) you'd want go with Swisher or Raburn:)

I think we are gonna score some runs today... we need to keep this close... Kaz needs to be on somewhat of a short lease... this is a big game... we will either be 4.5 or 2.5 back after this game today behind Oak and TB already won

Done.  Just give me anyone with a better overall approach at the plate than Stubbs.

Not that lineup construction matters much anyway...especially with our bunch of pieces and parts.

Does that include going after fly balls with some effort with two outs to prevent runs?

If so, I'm on board.

This team cannot hit soft tossing lefties, scoring 3 or more runs is highly unlikely today.

That's why Gomes is batting 8th in the lineup.
