Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Masterson giving up a lot of hits, but his PC is low and only one walk through 3IP.  Unfortunately one of the hits was a homer, but luckily it was with no one on.  Indians started out down 2-0 after 2 IP, but in the bottom of the third, singles by Gomes and Stubbs, Brantley then flies to shallow center (I am bummed, I know Brantley is hitting well, but I would have had him bunt, he has a bunt hit already, why not try a bunt hit/sac bunt) but Kipnis picks him up with a 2-run triple to center.  Unfortunately, Cabrera flies out the shallow LF, Kipnis unable to tag.
Hopefully Reynolds can pick up Cabrera like Kipnis did.

Reynolds walks, and Cabrera is not able to drive them in.
Masterson goes 1-2-3 against the Twins, 51 PC after 4.
Indians get an Aviles 1 out double after Raburn hits an at-em ball.  Unfortunately no one can bring in Aviles, Gomes had a foul ball go down the line deep down the RF line before popping up, and the Stubbs does the same.

Masterson leads off the 5th with a K, but the last pitch is a wild one and the batter gets to first safely.  Top of the order lays a sac bunt, Masterson comes back and Ks Morneau on a foul tip.

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Brantley continues to show his ability to hit lefties, singles up the middle.
Hernandez is scared of Brantley, keeps throwing over, and Brantley draws a balk call.  Personally I wouldn't have expected Brantley to steal with Kipnis up to leave the hole open on the right side.
Kipnis down 0-2 (tried to bunt after the 0-1) but has battled back to 2-2.  Hargrove in the booth with Rosenhaus.  Rosenhaus is a pretty good second chair, but there is a huge difference between Hamilton and ROsenhaus, especially considering on radio, you really have to paint a picture.
Kipnis taps to the second baseman to move Brantley over.  Hopefully Cabrera can hit the ball deeper...never mind, first pitch GO to the SS with the infield drawn in.
Freaking team is 1-8 with RISP.  This is not good...I have a bad feeling that this is all going to end badly.

Reynolds shows off his entire repertoire this game, first a K, then a BB, now a HR.  Tribe up 4-2.
I bet the Twins are kicking themselves that they didn't just walk him again.  I wonder if Swisher should hit lower now.

You gotta love the Reynolds signing.  I know he's going to start hitting a lot less, but the consistent power is a thing of beauty.  Haven't seen it in our lineup in a long time.

And might I add that it's nice to see we're hitting so well without our big FA signings in the lineup...

THe interesting thing is, he has gone to RF a lot, is that something he started doing this year?  If it is, that bodes well that he might actually be able to hit .275 or so.

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

After dominating the first hitter, Masterson hits Parmalee, but then eats up Plouffe who hits the ball too softly and gets Parmalee over to second.  Bad news as Arcia gets a sinking line drive to fall in LF for an RBI single.  First pitch sinker, so not surprising.  Definitely a huge reason Masterson has issues with lefties, they learn to just go the other way and let the natural break of the ball carry to the barrel and back through into LF.

Control is suddenly gone, two straight balls high and wide after walking Hicks.
But gets a strike, and then Florimon GO to Santana at 1B.

I hope Tito goes to the pen for the 7th. JM wasn't great but he got through 6 with the lead. Turn it over to Smith, Pestano and hopefully we'll add on enough so Perez will only give us minimal heart discomfort.

Look for Justin in the 7th since he is only at 77 pitches with Smitty warming up in the pen just in case.

Yeah is pitch count is relatively low but he's not as sharp. I think Francona will let him start the inning but I'll feel a lot better with a couple here, biggrin

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Hernandez seemed to tire a lot at the end.  FB only 88 with Stubbs.  I think he was low to mid 90s at the start.
Walk to Gomes followed by a double by Stubbs off the wall, 2nd and 3rd and one out (Aviles lineout to center).  Gardenhire pulls the plug.

I think Masterson goes out with Hill warming up.  Mauer, Morneau and Doumit are coming up after Dozier.

I love intelligent baseball, especially when it's the Tribe being smart.

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Brantley unable to hit a lefty reliever and takes a 94 MPH fastball for strike 3.
Kipnis gets a bunt RBI.  Was there a shift?
Duensing used to start right?  He has some stuff from the left side.
ACab lines out to center to end the inning.
Dozier tries to convince the ump that he was hit on a 2-2 pitch to no avail.  Flies out to near the track in left.  Mauer lines to STubbs.  Morneau finds a spot for his line drive to RF between Kipnis and Raburn.
Passed ball on a 1-0 pitch to Doumit moves Morneau to second.

Hargrove says he was not a fan of the shift but sat in on a 1 hour session heavy on stats and now is a believer.

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

Doumit cues a ball against the shift into LF to score Morneau.  Sigh, nothing you can do if the pitcher doesn't do what he is supposed to do.
Masterson is done, can't get out of the 7th.  I am a little disappointed.  Just expected more.  Masterson can be so dominant iwthin a game but then loses it for a few hitters and ends up jacking his ERA.

Re: Game 26: Master back on the mound?

I just watched Allen serve up a HR to a .230 hitter who was down in the count 1-2.  Twins lead

In a close game like this, I don't understand why the Indians didn't just Smith, Pestano and Perez
