We are returning to the old site

We are returning to the old site

This is on the Cardinals forum at the new site.

NOTICE: We are returning to the old site As you all know all too well, the last four days since the new site launched have been very trying times for the staff and the users of this site and the entire network. The FOX Sports NEXT team has been unable to seamlessly transfer your accounts, and unable to stabilize an array of technical problems since the launch. We have worked tirelessly to try and help all of you through this process, but it has become clear that FOX Sports NEXT is not ready - and not close to being ready - to be fully functional and problem-free.

Because of this, we are moving back to the old site tonight, Monday night.

Overnight, the servers will be routed to return to the former front page, and we will shift all conversation back to the old forums. They are still sorting through all the technical and account aspects of this return.

We are extremely sorry that everyone had to endure these last four days. Frankly, we are extremely disappointed with how this developed. If we had any indication that the network would run into these types of problems (and be incapable of fixing them quickly) with this redesign, we would have done everything possible to stop the train from going down these tracks.

At some point in the coming months, there will be a redesign, as it is in the best interests of everyone to make much-needed technological improvements, but not with a network that is unable to support it - and not at the expense of your patience and goodwill.

Wow.

And you thought the Tribe front office is screwed up.

For better or worse, some of us will be sticking around longer than we might have expected.

When this was first discussed I had a feeling deep down that the "new" forum "innovations" would lead to big problems.

This is a very stable forum, I have run my own community forums before and I know of many improvements that could be made.

The question though is "is it really necessary?"

If you're talking about sticking around this forum, I can't imagine why it would be for the worse. Been to the other forum and it was god awful painful

Compared to other community forums the software here was really outdated.  In fact I liked the software before the last change much better.

If I were cynical in looking at the new board I would have thought a major reason for the "upgrade" was to enhance the look and amount of advertising.  Since I'm not the least bit cynical you should ignore the last sentence.

Is this the new Coke, old Coke strategy??? Introduce a new crappy product to reinforce loyalty in the original product? If so, it was brilliant.

If it was not an intentional strategy sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. I would like to hear from the dude or chick who is in charge to understand this.

Basically, there was a massive subscriber revolt and Fox was faced with huge cancellations and it very well may have snowballed beyond the point of no return.

Obviously they didn't want to make this move, but the feedback was so incredibly negative that they were ultimately left with no choice but to roll it all back.

According to Brian Walton:

I don't think the new site will be taken down anytime soon, but I am done posting content there for the indefinite future.

Yeah, I have to admit that I was probably donesies. At least for a while.

For some reason, I have never been able to get into posting on a site with any design but this. I have posted on several of the Scout boards, but rarely anywhere else. It really isn't that I'm a curmudgeon (too young...I hope), but I was probably not going to go through the rigamaroll to post at Fox Sports Next.

I couldn't even figure out how to find the message boards on the new site.  Very happy this one is back.

I had one post on it and it was painful. If that's what the future of forums is going to look like and be like, I'll be doing something else.

I guess my comment was obtuse; when I said "for better or worse" I was being self-deprecating, figuring there'd be quite a few who wouldn't mind if I fell by the wayside during a forum transition.

Nah, they need us old timers to remind them how bad it was back then - even though we never stopped loving them. biggrin
