According to Hoynes (PD) Antonetti and Shapiro will be back in their respective jobs.

Re: Acta Fired

He needed to be replaced.  But , really?  Firing him with a week to go in the season?  Unless he committed some felony last night I don't really understand the timing.

Probably some clause in his contract where he got a $25k or $50k bonus if he finished the year.  Likely another cheap money saving move by Dolan.

RE: Acta Fired

If they think a different manager can get more out of Droobs and Kipnis, they should have made the move. But that's pretty much all you can hang on Acta, right?

The pitching isn't his fault, though it's not like Acta's pitching coaches were part of the solution either.

RE: Acta Fired

Best thing for Acta given the no-win situation. Now he can collect a paycheck next year without worrying which part of his team was going to show up each game.

It's also not a surprise that they're giving Alomar a six game audition. Par for the course for a front office that seems to have the reverse midas touch lately.

Should be a fun off season for what has become MLB's new three-ring circus.

I think Boston may eventually look at Alomar.  They interviewed him last year.  I think the Indians would be wise to hire Alomar as quickly as possible.

I wonder if the Tribe made the move now to ensure they could wrap up Alomar

Yep.

Already dealing with bad PR. Don't let it snowball by letting a popular member of the franchise [22 YEARS] get away.

They shouldn't overlook Omar Vizquel! I read an article that this is his last year as a player and coaching could be in his future...

That would be an absurd provision to ever have in a contract.  It would be even more absurd to have it following a season with an option year following.  Incidentally, Acta's option for next year was already exercised.

In a manner of speaking.  By firing Acta now the Tribe has given themselves a little additional lead time in making a decision.  They still run the risk that if someone offers him a manager's job he'll take it even if the Tribe offers him the job as soon as he receives the other offer.

Not at all clear how good a chance Alomar has.  How similar as a manager to Acta would he be?  Will the Tribe decide to go in a different direction?

The in game management, especially of pitchers, and lineup construction were not the best either.

But the major reason to fire Acta was him letting the team give up the 2nd half.

Bring him onto the bench with Sandy at the helm. Hell, get Thome and Lofton in here too. Albert and Manaram can be the strength and conditioning coaches.

Yes, by all means bring back Manny as a "nutrition" specialist and trainer.

Haven't we had enough bad news this year? Now this?

I blame more of the failure of the last 4 years on those two than Acta.

It will be a long time, justified or not, before Acta get another MLB managerial gig.
