Chisox-Royals trade?
http://blogs.suntimes.com/whit...ed_for_tea.html Interesting moves by AL Central foes ... if true.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
It's true and it's great. I don't view the Royals as a threat right now at all and the Sox made a pretty stupid move. It isn't somthing that's going to haunt them or anything, but it's making holes bigger and wasting payroll. If we can end up scoring a high potential starter then I think we'll have a pretty decent chance of even contending this season.

I like Teahen, I think he'll do well in a more formidable lineup.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
Giving up two players with value to pay a league average (in literally every way possible) player ~5 million a year will never be a smart thing to do. This would be like us trading Jason Donald and Chris Gimenez for a 5 million dollar Ben Francisco.

I'd have taken those two for Peralta.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
Do Getz & Fields have value? This looks like a Chisox win & a KC salary dump to me. Not that Teahen is lights out, but if he can fill the 3B spot for the Chisox & allow Beckham to move to 2B it should pay off nicely for the Sox.

Meh trade for me. Two cats for a dog. Nice water cooler chat stuff.
Bit OT, but when we start our 2010 Around The League thread, should we have a separate one for AL Central talk and moves?

I don't see much in fields, but I suppose his power could come back at some point and Getz could be at least be a backup infielder if not a serviceable regular. But the bigger notion is clearly that they could have found a better option than Teahan for the same or less price via free agency.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
Teahen is a poor mans Casey Blake, if there is such a thing...lol. He has some value, and esp for a team like Chicago. Conversely, he doesnt add much to a team like KC. Fields and Getz are a good return. Good move for both orgs.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
White Sox have officially invented the least efficient way to acquire talent by trading talent for players who signed market deals before the market collapsed.
It's a double whammy when you add in Peavy's injuredness.

RE: Chisox-Royals trade?
I suspect the thinking went:
Teahan is better than our internal options, priced reasonably with no long term commitment, and since we've got the room in our budget and we consider Fields/Getz to be organizational fodder -- make the deal.
(I'm not signing off on those evaluations mind you, but I'd bet that's the angle they're coming from.)

It seems quite foolish even that this year's market is projected to be just as depleted or more than last year's and last year Abrue was had for 5 million. I could kind of get it if it happened in February, but the day after the WS?

RE: Chisox-Royals trade?
Yeah, I don't get it either. Teahan is also a butcher at third, and I've seen conflicting reports on where they want to play him.

Aren'tthe WhiteSox rumored to be going after Figgins.Teahan would play 3rd if Figgins plays 2nd or 2nd if Figgins plays 3rd.

Re: Chisox-Royals trade?
Teahan is playing RF in place of Dye. Although I would jump for joy if they played him and his career -10.1 UZR/150 @ 3B... especially if meant they were keeping Dye.

RE: Chisox-Royals trade?
Strange looking at this move next to the acquisitions of Bloomquist and Jacobs. They found cheaper versions with a bit more upside this time. They gave up a cheap reliever to get Jacobs and this trade cost them a player that is likely not going to be worth more than his contract. Is Dayton Moore learning?

RE: Chisox-Royals trade?
So the White Sox trade two useful, if marginal, infield pieces for Teahan while the Red Sox trade two useful, if marginal, relief pitchers for Hermida? And are going to pay Hermida less than half what the White Sox are going to pay Teahan?
That's why the Red Sox are good and the White Sox ... erratic.
