Season Predictions?
How many games will the Tribe win? Playoffs? Team MVP?
I think Clevelands going to make it close, im 50/50 if they are a play-off team just because the ALW is going to have 3 good teams with Texas, LAA and Oakland
I think Cleveland should be considered a legit contender for one of the wild card spots for the reason the ALE is weak this year, NYY is very old and their best players are way past their prime see the Lakers, lots of superstar power no substance i think this is the year they finally breakdown. Boston is rebuilding they dont really have an above average staff or line up. Tampa Bay got weaker losing Upton, and Sheilds, who knows whats going to happen to Baltimore replacing Reynolds.
I think in our own ALC, Chicgao didnt do anything to improve and lost Youklis, the catcher and Liriano. They just dont have a good team on paper although we always still find ways to struggle with them. KC improved the rotation with Santana and Sheilds but they still dont have much firepower on offense.
Out west the Rangers lost Hamilton and struck out on every bug name FA they seemed to have wanted, so they could end up taking a step back but we'll see.
LAA probably the favorite to get to the WS from the AL
I think the playoffs shake out like this
1-LAA 2-Detroit 3-Baltimore

Re: Season Predictions?
Injuries in spring training always happen, but if the season were to start tomorrow, this is my guess on the 5 best AL teams...
Toronto Tampa Detroit LAA Texas
I see the Tribe being improved, but no playoffs.

Tampas not going to have a shot at the playoffs this year, Texas is questionable

The name of the game is pitching. Tampa has some of the best in the game.

Re: Season Predictions?
The organization's goal is probably to be at least .500, or 81 wins. That would be something to build on for 2014. My prediction is based on nothing but merely hope that the SP surprises, particularly Masterson, Myers, and McAllister (the 3Ms). If so, then I think the Tribe will win 86 games. I think we will see improvement defensively in the OF, more power production with the additions of Swish and Reynolds, and I think better PH options off the bench this season. I also look forward to having Francona as manager and think he will make a difference in the clubhouse. Of course, the ST is a mystery at this point. Then, there will always be injuries to withstand. I tend to be an optomist, so I will hang my hat on 86 wins for 2013. But, I have no idea whether 86 wins will be enough for a wild card spot.

Re: Season Predictions?
Where did even better pitching get them last year? Oh right at home. Pitching must not be the name of the game afterall
best team era in baseball last year=Out of Playoffs --------------------------------------------- --- WahooinAtlanta wrote:

RE: Season Predictions?
81 for the Indians.
The AL East is going to be insane; an unexpected performance one way or another could swing a team from last to first or the other way around.

RE: Season Predictions?
The Indians defense is as good as anyones, their bullpen is top notch, their bench pretty good, and they should finishi in the upper half if not higher in runs scored. If there starting pitching is just average they should have quite a good season.

Re: Season Predictions?
Without getting too scientific, I attempted to be scientific with my prediction. I started by going back to last year and seeing what the Indians record was against each team they played. Here are the results
Baltimore 4-4 Boston 3-5 Chicago 7-11 Cincinnati 3-3 Detroit 10-8 Houston 1-2 Kansas City 8-10 LA Angels 5-4 Miami 1-2 Minnesota 6-12 New York 1-5 Oakland 2-8 Pittsburg 1-2 Seattle 1-4 St Louis 2-1 Tampa Bay 4-4 Texas 4-5 Toronto 2-4
This led to their team record of 68-94 for the season. The next thing I did was look at the schedule for next year and write down the number of games played against each team. From their, I looked at the Indians record against the team from last year, and tried to determine if the other team made any significant upgrades or downgrades, or whether they stayed the same. From there I tried to project whether the Indians were better than that team or not. For the teams we didn't play last year, I looked at them to determine which team I felt was better. This leads to my projected records against each team.
Baltimore 4-3 Boston 4-3 Chicago 10-9 Cincinnati 2-2 Detroit 11-8 Houston 5-2 Kansas City 10-9 LA Angels 2-4 Miami 2-1 Minnesota 11-8 NY Yankees 4-3 Oakland 3-4 Seattle 4-3 Tampa Bay 3-3 Texas 4-2 Toronto 2-4 Philadelphia 2-1 Washington 1-2 Atlanta 1-2 NY Mets 2-1
These numbers may seem optimistic to some, but based on what we did against some teams last year, and the fact that we made the most improvements in the Central Division, I do not think it is all that unrealistic that we could see a big improvement. Detroit won the Central last year with an 88-74 record, but didn't really do much. They added Hunter, resigned Sanchez, and have Martinez coming back from the DL, but everything seems to indicate that they will use Rondon as the closer to start the season. If he struggles, they could lose some games early on. Minnesota and Chicago didn't add much at all so I can see the Indians gaining a few games on each. Kansas City addressed their pitching but the offense doesn't really look that promising. On top of that, we play Houston 7 times, and they look to be an awful team. New York and Texas failed to improve so I can see us picking up a few games on them.
Again, these are just projections based on last years numbers, and trying to analyze which teams improved or didn't improve, and use that to judge some numbers. With that said, I am predicting an 87-75 record, which could just be enough to squeak past Detroit to win the Central, or at the least win the second wild card.
As far as playoffs go....
Toronto Cleveland Anaheim Detroit Oakland

Re: Season Predictions?
That very well could be. I predicted a 3 win improvement over Chicago, 2 win improvement on Kansas City, and a 5 win improvement over Minnesota. My simple reasoning, without going back over the past few years, is that we always seem to struggle somewhat against the other Central teams. But still, even with my projections that is a 10 win improvement over last year. Your projections against those 3 teams is a 19 win increase from last season. My overall projection has them increasing by a total of 19 wins against the entire league. In fact, your projections for those 3 teams add 9 wins to what I have projected, making the Indians a 96 win team, which would easily put them as one of the top 2 teams overall in the AL. That is also a 28 win improvement over last season. I think everyone will agree that unless the pitching surprises, that is a bit optimistic.

Well im looking at it from how much better we got and Chicago losing some of their best guys and not improving, Minnesota is just flat out bad and KC didnt add offense which they needed
