Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignments
Antonetti and Francona have talked to the players affected by the Bourn signing fit in defensively. Since the decisions cut across multiple threads I thought I'd start a new one instead of posting this in one thread or posting in multiple threads. Bourn will play center, with Brantley playing left, Stubbs in right, Swisher at first and Reynolds at DH. Swisher will play some right in which case Reyonlds will play first. Link[Please note that I've edited this post to avoid confusion to first time visitors to this thread. The edits are to correct my misunderstanding what Hoynes wrote. You will see the stupid mistake I made as you read down thread.]

Re: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignment
Love it.
When Swisher is playing right and Stubbs is sitting, think of the speed we can bring off the bench in close games late.

Bourn will play leadoff and play center. He will be followed by Brantley playing left, Stubbs in left, Swisher at first and Reynolds at DH.
Swisher will play some right in which case Reyonlds will play first.
Link Gonna get a little crowded in left field, no?

Re: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignment
So does Stubbs primarily play in RF when lefties start?

RE: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignment
This rests quite a bit on the bat of Stubbs. But it does offer a lot of mid season flexibility if he stinks the joint up.

Link Gonna get a little crowded in left field, no? Thanks I fixed it. Bourn, Stubbs and Brantley will all cluster in left before every pitch and break towards the position they will play when the pitcher starts his windup or stretch. Much like the players in football cluster around the kicker before the kickoff. Wonder why no team has tried this since Veeck owned the St. Louis Browns.

-------------
this also makes it sound like that's the batting order, which clearly it was not intended to do.

Re: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignment
I think Aviles will get a lot of run as well....he is a streaky hitter and Terry knows that...if he has stretches where he is hot he can do some damage and I expect he will plat alot during those stretches somewhere and it probably comes at Chisenhall or Stubbs

RE: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignments
Also I think this will allow Reynolds to slide over to 3b for Chisenhall sometimes too.

i think it's more likely aviles will play some 3B when chisenhall needs a break or the indians are facing a particularly tough lefty. reynolds is pretty brutal defensively at 3B.

Link Was a little confused initially reading your post, by your saying "followed by", as if you were talking about the batting order as well as the position each player would play. Was thinking that there would be no way that Stubbs would bat third. Upon reading the link you provided, (thanks!), I can see that the author was just listing each player's expected position, and not inferring any particular order...Probably would be good to change the post title by deleting the Offensive alignment part...

Re: Tribe's New Offensive and Defensive Alignments
Yeah the batting order has to have Bourn leading off, but probably not Brantley in the 2 hole. I suspect that will be Kipness.
Probably like this:
Bourn Kipness Cabrera Swisher Santana Reynolds Brantley Chisenhall Stubbs
One thing I like about this is having three strong base stealers lined up back to back to back.
If Stubbs can get back to more like his 2010 self that would be really great. Don't really want what he put up last year. That was dreck.
