He's still relatively young.  What kinds of injuries has he had in the last few years?

Indians sign Dice-k to minor league deal pending physical

Daisuke Matsuzaka will make $1.5 million in base salary if he passes physical and makes team.  # Indians.

Re: Daisuke signed

From Jon Heyman of CBS Sports comes word that the Indians have agreed to a minor league contract with right-handed starter Daisuke Matsuzaka. The deal carries an invitation to spring training, where the 32-year-old will be given a crack at a starting rotation spot. If he’s on the major league roster the entire season, he can earn an upwards of $4 million.

Re: Daisuke signed

1 I wonder how much Francona use to do with this. He was a great pitcher for him and it would make sense for him to help him out now

2 he had tommy john surgery I may 2011. It would not be unusul for him to have a tough time last year. He will be at nearly 2 years post surgery when the season starts. If he is anything like his old self it would be awesome. Makes this a great low risk high reward signing

If worst comes to worst, I think he can be a useful reliever.

Re: Daisuke signed

So 1.5 mil only if he makes the MLB team?

Sounds good to me, we should know by the end of spring training whether hes got anything left.

Re: Daisuke signed

Another decent signing.  If he can remain healthy he'd be a decent 4th or 5th starter on this team.  I think he's still capable of an ERA of around 4.25 with a WHIP under 1.40.

Though with the current excess of right handed bullpen arms I would be surprised if they released a guy off the 40 man roster to stick him into the pen.

I am still hoping that we are signing Bourn to a one year deal and trading Asdrubal and Perez.

Too much to ask for?

Probably too much to ask for since I suspect there is not much of a market for Perez absent an injury to another closer.  But I would love to see them both moved and add several more starters and a bat or 2.

Since Bourn would cost the Indians a 3rd round pick but cost the Mets a 1st rounder, another option, if the rules allow it, would be to sign Bourn and trade him to the Mets for something they value less than the 1st but the Indians consider better than the 3rd.

Could be a fairly decent number 5. Don't really expect more, but would have to imagine at least one of him or Kazmir makes the team as a #5/long man. Allows for Bauer and Carrasco to start the season at Columbus where their innings can be monitored more closely.

are you figuring that francona and callaway can watch them on closed circuit zoom from the dugout or clubhouse

Re: Daisuke signed

I'm saying there is no point wasting roster spots on 2 pitchers who will have innings limits, to start the season. They can start at Columbus where the depth is deep enough they can get extra days off or skipped turns if needed to help keep innings low, for when they do come up to Cleveland. I don't want to see either start in Cleveland and struggle, and end up riding the Columbus shuttle back and forth all season. Once they arrive in Cleveland, I for one want to see them out there every fifth day, and not have to worry about when they will be shut down, especially if we are in the thick of a playoff hunt. Just makes more sense to me to go with the vets to start the season, knowing that they will probably break down, opening roster spots later in the season. And if they don't break down, then we have a pretty darn good team, with pretty good depth in Columbus.

I thought it was discussed previously that this would be considered collusion and go against the CBA.

Re: Daisuke signed

I'd like to get Bourn for 2 yr if possible...1 yr would be Ok cause you could move him at the deadline but I think the tribe can really contend in 2014
