Lohse will get a contract that is somewhat unsimilar to Myers

Lohse hasn't had one team offer him a contract yet. Not one. Maybe he'll settle for a pay cut. (Jim Bowden)

You couldn't give Ubaldo away right now, let alone get descent prospects for him.  His only value is to us as a reclamation project.

Lohse is 35, was quite mediocre for most of his career, and has Boras as an agent.

I think he is a big risk  and certainly not going to get the money he expects

The new collective bargaining agreement is showing some  bite, especially since everybody and his mother now sees pretty clearly the value of top draft picks.  If we had used ours more wisely over the years, wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

Re: How about if the Tribe signs Lohse and

I am surprised Lohse hasn't signed yet. I thought he would be a lock for a 2-year 20 million dollar deal. But apparently (and very wisely) other teams don't believe he's worth that much.

Naturally it's still too early to say positively, but it looks like being a Boros client is definitley not working in Lohse favor. Yeah, we know that any high profile player who is a Boros client is going to get his money, but maybe not aging players in Lohse range.

No doubt he can help, but there's still Marcum on the market and I would think he might be a little more attractive to some teams than Lohse

Does Marcum cost a draft pick? Big difference if one does and the other doesn't.

lohse has had two good years, but before that he was a dime a dozen pitcher. he's 34, doesn't strike anyone out, has posted way below average BABIP the past two seasons, and has been better than average only in the NL. no wonder he's not getting his 2/20 or whatever he thinks he's worth.

a couple of interesting pieces:

I think he wants a lot more than 2/$20 more in the range of 4/60.  Didn't Lohse turn down a 1 year deal from the Cardinals for approximately $14.

Re: How about if the Tribe signs Lohse and

Boras 3 main FA for 2013 are all in for a rude awakening.    They should have take the 1 year deal their previous club offered.

Bourne is at 30 and relys on his legs for most of his skills.  As he gets older and his speed dimishes he becomes less valuable.  In 70's they used to say singles hitters don't make $100k a year.  He's is not much more than a singles hitters who can steal some bases.

Soriano three years ago was so much more interested in the money that he took a career dead end position to get paid. He was miserable as the Yankees set up man and only in Boras world was he lucky enough to reestablish his value when Riveria went down.  He was so bad in the set up roll that the Yankees turned to someone else to close initially.   With Riveria the Yankees already have a quality set up man and won't be stupid enough to give Soriano a ridiculous contract for a position they have no need.  All the other teams that might consider Soriano are maxed out in salary or looking for much much cheapwe options. I believe his best opportunity is with the Tigers and even in that situation it appears they would rather go with a rookie than overpay Soriano.

Lohse is basically a mediocre pitcher who has gotten better with age but certainly doesn't have the numbers or stuff to get the contract he desires.

It's going to be interesting to see these three players waiting for an offer that will never come.

I agree that none of these 3 are worht anywhere near the current asking price, but as we see every year, it only takes 1 idiot GM or owner to overpay.

Unless they back off their demands, they'll probably remain unsigned for a while, but as soon as ST begins & players go down with injury, things change.

IMHO i see Lohse signing a 1 year deal around 8.5 mil with a contender which if he performs well will allow him to maybe cash in when he becomes a Free Agent again after the 2013 season.

Bourn also may end up heading back to the Braves on a 1 year deal.
