Dodgers and Mariners trade

Dodgers and Mariners trade

Several articles on these two teams talking about Ethier.  I think the Indians could be a possible fit in a 3way.  Asdrubal+ to LA, Ethier to Sea, with Gordon & Capuano from LA and a top SP prospect (and maybe Zunino) from Sea to the Tribe?  Anybody on the board heard any rumors about a third team involved?

I would be interested in something like that - we would most definitely have to get a top SP prospect back in any AsdroCab deal.

Re: Dodgers and Mariners trade

Why do you want Capuano.  He is mediocre at best, had decent number last year in a pitcher's park, and is a FA after 2013.  LA is not very happy with Gordon  and he  is probably ticketed for the minors or is Dodger trade bait.

I would prefer signing Sauders who isn't much older if he is, has had a better career, and doesn't require the Indians to give up a prospect.

Saunders and Capuano are probably of relatively equal value, so I would agree that I would rather just sign Saunders if it were between the two.

I'm not sure why we would want Gordon back, either. He is terrible.

With all that said, I would not mind being part of the proposed deal, but without Gordon. Getting Capuano back is fine, too, so long as he is not taken over any good prospects.

Re: Dodgers and Mariners trade

i'd rather have MLB-ready prospect pitchers. the indians have set a pretty high bar by landing bauer for choo, essentially. they should get at least that much in young pitching back, and hopefully more, for cabrera.

You're suggesting Jack Z trades a top SP prospect + Zunino for Andre Ethier?

That would be like us trading Lindor + a top SP prospect (if we had one) for Ethier.

It doesn't make any sense for Jack Z to do so unless he's wishing to get fired.

Dee Gordon was one of the worst players in baseball last year, accumulating a -1.1 WAR in 87 games. For reference, the absolute worst was Kotchman at -1.5

Gordon's only asset is speed. He's neither good at defense or hitting. He's a guy you maybe grab in fantasy baseball, but I want nothing to do with him on the Tribe.

If only it were that simple, ha. That's not nearly enough for Stanton. (Not to mention, Miami would be taking on more salary as well).

Since Miami started blowing things up, I've allowed myself to daydream about a Lindor centered package for Stanton. I mean, I'm not sure there's another offensive player more appealing to the current Tribe team. (Ok, besides Mike Trout). Stanton is an elite RH power hitter, having just turned 23, and with 4 years of team control left. The only reason he's even potentially available is due to the Miami Marlins being a horribly run organization. On 29 other teams, Giancarlo Stanton's name is not mentioned in a trade rumors this off season. But, it's quite the mess down in South Florida, and some team might be able to capitalize on the situation.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Indians will be that lucky team. Perhaps in a vacuum they could entice Miami, offering Bauer and Lindor as main pieces. But relative to other teams, the Indians don't have the same ammo. A team like Seattle can offer multiple top SP prospects. Texas can offer near MLB ready position players like like Olt and Profar. The Indians just can't offer as much as a handful of other teams, one of whom will undoubtedly pony up should Stanton truly be available.

Still, it's fun to imagine.

I agree,  Cleveland really needs starting pitching, so  I doubt bauer would be included in any talks... Stanton would look awesome in the middle of our line up!!!

Re: Dodgers and Mariners trade

Here is what type of offer it would take to get marlins taking about Stanton

Chisenhall / Brantley / Lindor / Howard or Monsalve JMHO

As far as the Indians being part of a 3 team deal

Mariners get Ethier

Indians get Paxton ( Mariners ) Near ready Lefty for the rotation & Joc Pederson  / Matt Magill / Jose Dominguez
( Dodgers )

Dodgers get Asdrubal / Chris Perez

Re: Dodgers and Mariners trade

Stanton would require a center-piece of at least 3 very valuable prospects/young players. We're talking about prospects in the top 5/20/50 range and/or extremely young, cheap, players who are currently under team control for a while and are safe bets to produce 4/3/2 WAR. This means that teams like the Rangers or Rays have plausible packages (Profar/Olt/Perez or Meyers/Archer/Lee) and context (a team built for winning now, in the near future and with an extremely deep farm system) for trying to make a move, however we only have two pieces to the puzzle in Bauer and Lindor and not a whole lot of context. Since we lack that third top 50 prospect we'd have to toss in a current ML player, like Chisenhall. So while Bauer/Lindor/Chisenhall may be a reasonable center-piece to start tossing around, I'm not seeing a potential deal make that much sense to either team (as much as I'd love to do so... even at the cost above).
