If true, Paul Hoynes better watch his Ps and Qs during interviews.

Why? Hoynes has been mailing it in for years does he even go to the games anymore? At worst Myers can just turn off the Skype connection and be done with Hoynes.

I wonder if he will be used as a starter? It also could give us added flexibility... he could close and Perez could be flipped for prospects or some starting pitching. Just a thought.

RE: Indians sign Brett Myers?!?!?!

I like this addition depending on the price tag.  Myers either provides solid bullpen depth or as a solid bottom of the rotation starter.  This is assuming he's healthy enough to be a starter as I'd have no real idea why a team as bad as Houston would have pulled him from their rotation unless the belief was that he's not healthy enough to sustain that many innings.  He did have hip surgery in 2009, so it's possible that he's only durable enough for a certain amount of innings.

As for Chris Perez I've said it once and I'll say it again, we're stuck with Chris Perez until a contender absolutely needs a closer.  People need to get out of denial on this matter.  With Perez likely to make upwards of 7 million bucks this next season, no team in their right frame of mind is going to trade for him when the only value he would bring to a contender is as a setup man at best at the moment.  Teams don't pay setup men that much money.

Gotta leave him in the bullpen.

Jon Heyman is reporting that it is a 1-year deal with a club option for a 2nd year.  No financial details yet.

SP or reliever , I like it either way

Would give us  at least a solid, if not spectacular rotation w/ the first 4......Masterson.....Bauer....McCALLISTER....and Brett Myers.  Also gives us good insurance in the back end of the bullpen & makes it easier to get Perez the-hell-outta'-here already

No reason why he cannot be an effective starter.  Houston moved him to closer last season due to a belief they had more rotation options than closer options.  He threw 200+ innings each of his last two seasons as a starter with no missed starts though his 2011 season was markedly worse than his 2010 season with Houston.

I can never root for Myers because of this:

Can't imagine Myers is getting more than 5-6 million. The Indians needed starters so  he's gotta be in the rotation right? The Indians, despite trading Choo, could be a surprise playoff team in '13

Anther solid pickup. He won't turn into a hall of famer all of a sudden but he gives us anther arm which is needed

A very nice Addition to the rotation also gives the indians more flexibility to be able to move Ubaldo to the bullpen if they decide to go that route.

There will need to be 2 guys removed from the 40 man shortly with the Addition of Swisher and now Myers so who will it be ?????????????/

I say Neal or McDade & either Huff or Hermann.

Ugh. That's not cool. I can only hope and pray that he has changed his ways. I don't love it when my team signs players with a history of personal issues. I also heard a recording of him cussing out a reporter... hope he doesn't cause clubhouse issues.

Bauer and Myers might not get along lol. I like the signing talent wise, he's a solid SP. He seems like he's a good clubhouse guy, but if you get him mad....

I'd trade Herrmann, Diaz, and Albers for Harang or Capuano right now. Roster would stand at 40 and we'd have another SP.

Wait a minute, a pro athlete is a total dick?  Color me shocked.  Frankly, I find many of them to be hard to root for when i hear the stories that go around.  Myers just joins the list.

I like it.  Showed he could still be an effective reliever if things don't work out in the rotation.  Frankly don't like the rotation options left in FA, anyway, especially for the price.  Any moves that allow the club to give Bauer AAA times if they still think he needs it is welcome to me.

RE: Indians sign Brett Myers

I prefer rooting for good guys myself, but I can't argue with this pick-up, assuming it was fairly economic. As many have said, his flexibility is a plus. I'm sure he didn't sign to be in the bullpen, though. No way.
