I mentioned him last night...has alot of talent IMO and we need another power P...I am just curious as to what kind of bat we can add still if any if we were the ones who signed Jackson...he is dominant at times but does have his ups and downs

RE: Edwin Jackson?

Dude's got a nice fastball, and an absolutely DIRTY changeup. I'll take him, but only if we can't get Swisher.

I'd prefer to sign Swisher and Marcum, since we won't be able to sign Swish+EJax.

Jackson is apparently seeking at least 4 years and $12 or $13 million per year.

If you are referring to money than I'm not so sure.

I can't believe I wrote that.  Sigh!

The truth of the matter is that I have no idea how much the Tribe has to spend.

2014 onward for both Swisher is funded by the additional $10 million in Tribe TV rights and the approximate $25 million increase in National TV rights.

2013 there is the additional Tribe TV rights and an unknown increase in revenue from revenue sharing.  Probably not enough in themselves.  However, there remains the question of whether any of the net proceeds from STO will be used to infuse equity in STO.

I'm not asserting the necessary capital is there but only it is possible.

Finally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Tribe signed Swisher or Jackson if they also signed a mid-price free agent.

Got to go.  The men in white are coming to take me away.  Kinda a sad when a poster loses her grip on reality.crazy

Tony Lastoria has said numerous times that the Indians have offers to both Swisher and Jackson and are prepared to sign both.

Trading CP should be enough to allow the tribe to sign both, however, I prefer Marcum.

So you think that if the Tribe trades Perez they will receive only prospects and/or minimum salary players?

They would want young talent in return. Most likely prospects close to being ML ready. They aren't going to ask for established players in return.

Re: Edwin Jackson?

No he does not since Tony stated more than once that he does not see the indians being able to make a move for both.

I hope they really see something in Chris McGuiness if they decide to move in on Jackson we do however desperately need both pieces Swisher & Jackson.

You have a link to where he asserts they are prepared to sign both?

The proposed dollars for Jackson seem a bit steep to me.

yea I agree... IYO do we need a stick or a P more?... to me it's honestly a toss up...as bad as we are on offense at times I think our staff is pretty horrendous...personally I'm not sure which guy I would want more

I agree that it is a toss up as to what we need more, but I always prefer signing position players because they seem to age better and stay healthier. I also consider Swisher to be a more valuable player than Jackson in most reasonable scenarios.

Re: Edwin Jackson?

I can't see the offers getting much higher than the 4/52. Unless the Rangers get desperate and push it to 55

Re: Edwin Jackson?

If the Indians intend to be competitive in 2013 they need to add a quality starter and hitter to even have a prayer.  Not sure if there is a cost effective way to fix both.

Re: Edwin Jackson?

If Jackson is taken off the board, what is their next logical step?  I think they may try to catch lightning in a bottle with Liriano.  It would be a high risk/high reward type of signing, but that seems more realistic for a team like the Indians.  I've prepared myself to not see Jackson or Swisher wearing Cheif Wahoo.  In hindsight, I would've prefered being more aggressive on Jackson earlier in hopes of a lesser bidding war.  I've always liked Jackson's upside and durability even with his inconsistancies.

Do ya think?

There's a reason this guy can't stick anywhere for long...the reality catches up quickly to the myth.

And we want to make a four-year commitment to this guy?  Are we losing our minds?!?

I'm starting to think we're acting desperate, and that's dangerous.  Where the heck is our Manager of Baseball Research and Analytics when we need him?  Hey Keith, get out of that broom closet right now!  We need you, before it's too late!  Oh, KEITH!  Paging Mr. Woolner! STAT!

Re: Edwin Jackson?

Who, you have a solid argument.  Jackson's inconsistancy is an issue, and probably makes him a bad investment at the current asking price.  It's a dangerous risk for a team like Cleveland.

Re: Edwin Jackson?

Why would the Cubs want him?

I mean sure its a stretch for the Indians but the Cubs are farther off than the Indians IMO.
