Jays All In; Tribe All Um, er...

Jays have agreeed to sign Melky Cabrera on top of their monumental trade with the Marlins.

Yeah, we need a drug user on this team! come on people, this isn't the end of the world, Melky will not have another year like last year, Infact, I would bet good money he falls off big time.... Victorino or Upton is what this team needs  and I would even take bay to a 1 year deal... This is just the start of the off season and the jay's are being stupid with there money!!!

Cody Ross, Kevin Youkilis, and I suppose Bay are the only realistic good signings left hitting wise..... DON'T SIGN VICTORINO

Melky would have been a reasonable target for the Tribe. The problem is he makes a lot of sense for many teams on 2 year, 16$M deal. The Indians aren't the only team trying to address needs.

I can say with certainty I'm not looking forward to an off season where every single player acquisition made by other teams is an excuse to bash the Tribe around here. A repeat of the trade deadline where certain posters absolutely lost their mind (Why didn't we trade for Gaby Sanchez?!?!?!) would be unfortunate.

The front office will do something, but even if they go out and make minor moves it won't be enough for some people, if the front office does nothing else this offseason, then yes i'll be p*ssed, but it's still very early and maybe the front office will make a move that will make us all Cre** in our pants!!! Calm down, Settle down now!!!! lMFAO!!!

I'm with you on victorino,

Thing is, we don't need any of those guys. They're all on the wrong side of 30 & will be gone before this team makes the playoffs again.

Only way to go is to add as many decent prospects as possible to go with Kipnis, Santana, Lindor, Carrasco, Pestano, etc.

Cheat, get suspended for 50 games, then sign a contract for twice as long & 4 times as much as your previous contract.

Just goes to show that the PED fines & suspensions aren't nearly large enough.

I'm not too impressed with the rumors who the Tribe is interested in. Bay was one of the worst FA signings ever. Now the Indians appears to have Bay in their sights.  No Thanks!!!!!!

On a minor league deal, Jason Bay is definitely worth a look.  Despite his overall struggles from 2010-2012, he did post some decent home splits at least in 2010 and 2011.  He posted an .830 OPS at Citi Field in 2010 and a .799 OPS in 2011, so it's clear he still has some ability.  On a minor league deal there is little to lose in giving Jason Bay a shot.

it's never an issue to sign someone to a minor league deal to see if he has anything left. that'd be fine with bay, too, though my fear is the indians will give him a MLB deal.

Even in that case depending on the price, it's not going to hurt that much.  If you give him the league minimum or 1 or 2 million with incentives based on performance, again I have no real issue with that.  Jason Bay's 2012 was a washout, but he did show ability in 2010 and 2011 in about half the games he played in.  That's more than what can be said about Sizemore.  I'd also be wiling to bring a guy like Hafner back under these circumstances if Hafner was actually able to play a position.

I'm not sure I follow.

Teams should not be able to pay a player what they think he's worth?
Or PED offenders should have contract limits?
Or..?

He went into free agency for the first time.  That almost always increases your pay.  Absent the suspension, Cabrera would have been looking at something closer to $40-45 million over 4 years in free agency.  $8 million is way below the performance value unless you believe he is really a .250 hitter with no power and speed absent PEDs.  And given the fact that he has managed to pass many drug tests since entering the majors, I find that to be highly unlikely.  If he falls to a .285 hitter who gets 15-20 HRs and SBs, he is a bargain.

No, teams can pay whatever they want.

What I'm saying is that there are still players failing tests & those are just the guys who've gotten caught.  There's probably many more taking stuff that can't be detected. If the penalties were more severe, this stuff would stop. I think they should make it 100 games minimum for 1st time offenders. If that doesn't get their attention, make it 162 games.

Which Melky did the Jays get?  The guy who NY & ATL didn't want or the guy who's  numbers increases dramatically (probably due to PED use) & was then caught?

Unless they go to a lifetime ban for a failed test, I think you're going to continue to be disappointed. The incentive to cheat is just too high.

As far a s which Melky they're getting, I think the Jays answered that question. The enhanced Melky would have gotten much more, for much longer.

Re: Jays All In; Tribe All Um, er...

It's my understanding that every player is tested every year.  If that is the case, then Melky's 2011 season would be legit and if that is the case, then the Blue Jays could have gotten a pretty good steal at 2 years and 16 million.
