Tribe is in talks w/ Boston, for Choo & Masterson !!!

WOW, like I said the other day, Francona obviously wants to overhaul this thing & is definately putting his stamp on the team. Not sure how close it is to getting done, if at all, but where there's smoke there's fire. Makes sense on a lot of levels. The Farrell-Cleveland connection.....the Francona-Boston connection.....plus, the Red Sox have all of those top prospects now, after that blockbuster w/ the Dodgers. Choo was probally gonna' bolt after this year anyways & if Justin has another bad year, his trade value will plummet (so ya' might as well get something for him now). I hate the idea of a full-fledge fire sale, but I believe in Terry Francona as much as anyone & if this is what he thinks is best, then I'm all on board. http://waitingfornextyear.com/...masterson-choo/

Since when was Francona hired to be the GM?

I missed something apparently...

This is the 2nd thread he's started insinuating Francona is calling the shots. I think it's best not to engage in discussion. Fastest ignore I've ever busted out on this board.

I think he's overplaying Francona's role, but it wouldn't surprise me if Terry's input is welcomed by the front office. That may have been 1 of his demands before he took the job. Besides, this current front office could use some help.

regardless of the sentence construction and assumptions, it is natural to think boston and cleveland could be trade partners. question is, what would we expect from boston in such a trade? i would think 4-5 prospects, at least one a pitcher and one a hitter nearly MLB ready (de la rosa or webster or barnes, plus a guy like sands or someone) and some lower-level guys. not sure boston has enough, but ...

red sox top prospect is a SS whose ETA is 2014. we could always deal for him and use lindor and cabrera as trade bait, and still have rodriguez and diaz as backups.

I do believe that the Indians will be dealing some of these guys before the season starts I just hope that the guys we get back in return are young guys that have just cracked the majors like a Cozart / Frazier / Middlebrooks / Dirks type guys and not a deal like --

 Example

CP / Choo / Astro / Masterson like players to a club for a hand full of A ball type guys with high upside.

I do not care if it is a one for one deal instead of a huge a ball question mark.

Trevor Bauer is a guy I would look to deal for before i thought about moving a Justin Masterson and if you moved guys like a Astro / CP and Choo you would hope there would be a free agent starter vet signing like a Dempster or Haren type signing.

Don't think we have enough to acquire Bauer.  He's got #1 SP potential.  The D'Backs won't trade him unless the offer is great.  They have no reason to.

Would you trade Lindor straight up for Bauer to better address our organizational weakness at pitcher?  Arizona passed on Lindor to take Bauer a year ago but I suspect Cleveland might have taken Bauer over Lindor as well as most of the lists had Bauer higher rated.

In a heartbeat, Paulino will be a good shortstop, If I had the chance to get a potential FOR Starter; I would do it in a heartbeat....  Cleveland has also has placed a bid on Hyun Jin Ryu a Korean starter... We need starting pitching!!!!

Paulino is not expected to stay at SS, although it is possible.  The winning bid on Hyun Jin Ryu was $25,737,737....no chance that was the Indians.

Looks like trading a guy like Lindor is the only way this regime is ever going to get their hands on a future ace. They now have a 13 year track record of drafting nothing remotely close to an ace.

WHY WOULD WE TRADE CHOO AND MASTERSON IF WE ARE INTERESTED IN SIGNING 33 YEAR OLD KEVIN YOUKILIS????? How does that make sense??

Why not spend money if there is room in the budget? What does it hurt?

Why would we trade Choo and Masterson, which to me are better than average players, for the unknown A players. Look what happened in our previous deals( CC,Lee) we got a burned with the player we got in return. We need to get back players that have played here and showed some signs that they can make it here. Not iffy propects

BTW, It's either the Dodgers Phillies, Angels or Indians, The Cubs and Rangers are believed to be out... That's awesome that the Indians atleast put in a decent bid!!!

The bid is part of our clandestine strategy to resign Choo.

You do realize you are saying not to trade masterson when that is how we got him?

Unfortunately, I have a hunch that the above pretty much sums up Shapco's opinion, as well.  I hope I am wrong: I would really like to see us dismantle the current juggernaut we have going for us, and sell what we can in order to try to put something together for the future.  I don't think it will happen, though. Shapco doesn't trust their own talent evaluation skills (for good reason) and fears being embarassed above all else (for career reasons).  They will look for players like Ubaldo, whom they can at least defend as a once-proven commodity.  For a similar reason, I also think it's not a long shot that they will make a run at signing Youkilis.

It's expected to be the Dodgers, and it would be really stupid for the Indians to spend over 27 million to negotiate with an unproven commodity that some scouts think will have trouble staying as a starter. There is also no way of knowin if the Indians bid is decent.

Edit: From Jordan Bastian's twitter. @MLBastian: South Korean team has accepted winning bid for LHP Hyun-Jim Ryu. It was not the Indians. Reports swirling that it could be Dodgers.
