What will Youk get

Posted: 11/8/2012 8:14 AM

What will Youk get

With Hoynes talking about Youk maybe coming to Cleveland I wondered what his contract will be, not if its Cleveleland or what it should be but what will it be.

I think one year at 8 to 10 million or 2years at 6 to 8.

Opinions?

I would prefer it doesn't happen at all.  Another scrap heap player that while productive after he got shipped out would just represent an organization doing more of the same thing they've been doing.

I'd like to see some signs that the orgaization is changing philosophically with the players on the field.

Those numbers seems too high to me.

the first choice would be to find a promising guy stuck behind a star, who the team would control for 4-5 years. but if it comes down to a 1-year deal, youkilis would be a good one to pick up. same with melky cabrera.

Re: What will Youk get

I doubt cleveland sign Youkilis if our front office start's rebuilding! Youkilis is going to get atleast 10 million a year, do we really need an aging DH for a rebuilding team? If we are going to rebuild we might as well give Hafner a small contract!!!

Re: What will Youk get

I think he will be in the 8 mil per, I would not be shocked to see Youk get a 3 year 24 mil deal.

Now that Jason Bay has been bought out of his contract would he be a possible cheap LF option and could he rebound outside the crazies of New York. Right Handed  Bat.

I do not know if everyone caught this one but Goedert is gone signed as a Free Agent by the Pirates.

Yeah, not interested in giving a player like Youk anything more than a 1 year deal if even that.

Bay will most likely be a minor league deal for some team. If our FO were competent, I wouldn't mind seeing them give him a minor league deal, but the problem with this organization is that he most like would make the team without winning it.

That being said, maybe Francona brings some sanity back to those types of signings.

Re: What will Youk get

I hope so since the addition of Francona has been the only front office positive move in the last 2 seasons.

I myself would never give a long term deal to Youk but would not be shocked to see a team out there do so I'm all for waiting till the end of next season for Aguilar for 1st base that is if he does not hit a wall in his development.

Re: What will Youk get

This is what I would do with him.  Give him $5 mil guarenteed.  Give him another 5 million in incentives.  If he reaches 500 PA this year a second year option will vest that will give him $10 million.  So if Youk comes back and plays a full season and hits all his incentives he can make 2/$20.  If he ends up being a bust we are only eating $5 mil on one year, something we seem to like to do anyways.

Never going to happen, Youk doesn't have anything to prove... I still think he will get close to 10 million next year and I hope it isn't by the Indians, because we need pitching more then an aging DH.... My guess he goes back to boston for 2 year's 21 million!!!

What will he get? The numbers that are getting tossed around in this thread are more than the Indians would be willing or should be willing to pay. However, I do think most are way-way-way over estimating his market value.

I can see him getting a 2-year 16 million dollar deal with a team option for a 3rd.

I don't see the team giving him that kind of deal.

RE: What will Youk get

There won't be much interest in Youkilis. And I agree that many people here are way overvaluing him. He'll be very lucky to get a two-year deal in the $10-$12m range.

And, if I were running the front office, I would do that. That would settle 1B, and then we can focus on trading for a pitcher and a couple of young outfielders who can hit the ball.

The only thing that would change my mind is if they can pry Olt away from Texas for Choo, they could then put him at 1B.

John Heyman predicting he'll get 2/20 million and an anonymous GM in the same article predicted that he'd get 2/18.

RE: What will Youk get

Remember, this FO isn't afraid to offer contracts IF the # of years works... they apparently offered Willingham more money than he accepted but for only 2 years...

Youk is a guy who everyone is expecting will see 2 years, so I see that matching up with the Indians pretty well. Also, the fact that Francona is here gives us the edge. I would predict 2 years at a total of $14MM to $16MM.

Other good options would be buy low guys like Jason Bay and Melky Cabrera.

How about no.

And we've already spent a fortune on Sizemore with no returns.  That's another no.

I agree with this. Youk is on the decline. Rather play some guys who still have upside.

Re: What will Youk get

Youk makes no sense if the Tribe unloads a bunch of players prior to the season.

He would be a great veteran influence for a young team that certainly could have used a veteran who commanded respect the last few years.

Yet, why would Youk come to Cleveland?

Does he really want to end his career playing nanny on a bad team in Cleveland?

Hire him as a hitting coach?  Sure.  Pay him $10M to be an old 1B/DH on a non-contender?  No, thanks.
