Non-Red Rumors 3.0 - Hot Stove 2011-12-13 Discussion
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s...37007&p=100By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 30 at 7:03pm CST] The Cardinals are targeting Jake Westbrook, rival teams tell ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark. The Cards are no longer pursuing Aaron Cook or Livan Hernandez, since they’re focused on the Indians right-hander. However, Stark hears that there’s just a 50% chance of a trade. The Indians don’t want to absorb salary in a deal, but Westbrook will make about $4MM between now and the end of the season. He also obtains a $2MM bonus if the Indians trade him. The Cardinals have been looking for an innings eater and Westbrook fits that description. The 32-year-old has posted a 4.65 ERA in 127.2 innings, with 5.1 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. Westbrook is scheduled to face the Blue Jays tomorrow.

Re: Non-Red Rumors III
USA Today's Bob Nightengale has reported that Lance Berkman vetoed a possible deal to the White Sox before a deal with the Yankees was consummated. It's not clear whether or not a deal was in place with the White Sox or if the Astros just asked Berkman if he would be willing to go to Chicago and he said no. Meanwhile, the New York Post's Joel Sherman has reported that the Astros are paying $4 million of the $7.5 million Berkman is owed between the remainder of his 2010 salary, plus his buyout for 2011. It's not yet known which players the Astros will be getting.

Re: Non-Red Rumors III
*** is Bowden still the GM of DC ?
ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that the Nationals are not sure that they want Edwin Jackson anymore. Olney says that the Nationals told other teams that a key piece for anyone that wanted Adam Dunn would be Jackson. So, it's pretty clear that the White Sox made the move for Jackson thinking they'd flip him to Washington for Dunn, only now the Nats are waffling. A trade still seems very possible, and perhaps the Nats are leaking this in order for the Sox to sweeten their deal. This drama is going to turn into one entertaining episode of "The Club," that's for sure. Jul. 30 - 9:14 pm et

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
They would have trouble making trades with teams in the future if that is true.

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
The Diamondbacks and Pirates are discussing a deal that would send catcher Chris Snyder to Pittsburgh, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Snyder's contract is a big hurdle and Arizona would likely have to pick up a large percentage of it to consummate this deal. He is making $4.75 million this year and is due $5.75 million next year. Snyder has a $6.75 million club option in 2012 or a $750,000 buyout. The 29-year-old is hitting .231 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI.

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
Um, wow Making his Astros debut, J.A. Happ tossed six scoreless innings to beat the Brewers on Friday night. If the Phillies end up regretting the Roy Oswalt trade, it will only be if Happ ends up giving Ruben Amaro Jr. nightmares. The southpaw did his thing tonight, giving up just two hits while striking out six and walking four. Although his peripherals are never going to be that good and he doesn't have overpowering stuff, Happ knows how to work out of jams and deceive hitters. He gets a tough matchup in St. Louis next week.

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 30 at 10:32pm CST] Jose Bautista picked up two walks and three hits tonight, including a grand slam. It's safe to say his trade value is pretty high. Here's the latest on the Blue Jays right fielder: - Bautista told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian that he isn't concerned about an extension. "I have one more year of arbitration and I have no problem with the process," he said. Bautista also said he hopes to stay in Toronto (Twitter links).
- Bautista is the player the Giants want, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (via Twitter). Heyman suggests the Jays could target Emmanuel Burriss or Ehire Adrianza in a trade.
- The Blue Jays and Giants have had extensive conversations, but San Francisco finds Toronto’s asking prices for Scott Downs and Bautista too high, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.
- Yesterday, Heyman reported that many teams besides the Giants were interested in Bautista.

The unloading of veteran Diamondbacks continues, as they've shipped reliever Chad Qualls to the Rays for a player to be named later. The Rays will pay the entire $1.48MM remaining on Qualls' contract, keeping interim GM Jerry Dipoto's streak alive of not sending cash in his transactions. Link

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
The Cubs have turned down an offer from the Mets of Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo for Carlos Zambrano, according to SI's Jon Heyman. It sounds like the Cubbies might be willing to do a straight Perez-for-Zambrano swap, but they didn't want Castillo included in the deal, as well. Perez and Castillo are due roughly $24 million combined through 2011 and then would come off the books, while Zambrano is due over $60 million through 2013. Although Zambrano clearly has the most talent left among the three, we certainly wouldn't blame the Cubs for his dumping his salary in a deal like this. It remains to be seen if the two teams can work something out.

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
The Indians have posted their Saturday lineup and are still listing Jake Westbrook as their starter. That doesn't mean he won't be traded, it just means he hasn't been yet. Westbrook has been linked often to the Cardinals and is still a decent bet to be dealt before today's 4 PM ET trade deadline.

RE: Non-Red Rumors III
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 31 at 9:31am CST] 9:31am: The D'Backs will receive Bobby Crosby and Ryan Church in the deal, tweets Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona. This explains the call-ups today of Argenis Diaz and Jeff Clement, to some extent. The inclusion of Crosby and Church offsets about $900K of the $8.18MM still owed to Snyder.

That is a mistake. They need to cash in on him having a career year (big time career year). kots4mvp14 wrote: Buster_ESPN Heard this: The Jays are more motivated to keep Bautista than deal him as of now. .970 OPS, salary $6 m. range in '11, versatile. #trades 8 minutes ago via web
