The Blue Jays designated Edwin Encarnacion for assignment on this date two years ago, and he cleared waivers two days later once the 29 other MLB teams had passed on him. I do believe that Pittsburgh is a nice story and they are going to be in the discussion over the next few years but this is living a charmed life.

I'd really like an explanation for this. He was DFA'd two years ago. Something clicked and I don't watch enough TOR baseball to know what it is, but this is not something I thought would happen.

I think I saw an article a little while back that said he made a change with how he swings the bat and now keeps both hands on the bat all the way through his swing instead of letting one hand come off of it.

Wow. Makes me hate our hitting coaches even more. That's a real difficult thing to fix there... geez.

Mets Sign C.J. Nitkowski

• Left-hander C.J. Nitkowski announced via Twitter that he has agreed to a minor league deal with the Mets and will report to Double-A Binghamton.  The 39-year-old, who last appeared in the majors in 2005 with the Nationals, added that this will be his "last shot" at getting back to the big leagues.  Nitkowski pitched in Japan and Korea from 2007-2010 and auditioned for the Mets back in March.
