OT - College Conference Money Hunt

OT - College Conference Money Hunt

We all know about the schools moving like rabbits to follow the money trail left by football, I do not blame the jesuit 7 from the Big East for splitting, I would too.  But it is ridiculous, musical conferences, who gets the cash?  Has not a damn thing to do with academics or the students or the athletes.  It is greed.  Money.

Cronin finally let her fly and I salute the man.  I agree with him 100%-  Pay the players if schools can do this bs routine following the football money trail.  I prefer college hoops myself.........

“I don’t blame them,” Cronin said. “It’s a shame that football, one sport, has
dictated all this and the money that one sport apparently is swinging around and
swaying universities to make the decisions. We’re sitting here in a state where
the state school is 800 miles from its closest road game. It’s ridiculous. Don’t
tell me that people care about student-athletes.”

Cronin wasn’t

“Lost in the shuffle in all this is our volleyball team, our
soccer team, Marshall’s tennis team,” Cronin said. “It’s all ridiculous. Let’s
call it what it is. I’ve thought about this long and hard and I’ve waited to say
this. If it’s all about this much money and money grabbing, the players need to
get paid.”

HELL YES they should be paid.  lol  Give em Hell Mick, I'm right next to ya on this one man.

RE: OT - College Conference Money Hunt

ESPN has driven all this. There are some big WVU donors that are saying anti trust suits are rumored to being prepared against the ACC and ESPN. They conjured this up and started it in 2004 and it just looks like it is going to end up killing the ACC and turning them into the new Big East.

Eastern football is all but dead. I partly blame pittsburgh. I believe it was JoePa that wanted to start an eastern conference back in the 80's with BC, PSU, Pitt, WVU, VT, Cuse, Rutgers, etc and Pitt said no way. JoePa said fine, screw you and headed for the Big Ten and the rest they say is history. Big East started to reach and add football in the early 90's and 10 years later the poaching begins.

RE: OT - College Conference Money Hunt

I believe UC is best suited to follow wvu to the Big 12.  I think we fit in more with the fans out there too.  The TT coach calling UC out I like that.  'd play em.  I believe Cincy is more southern than northern or eastern and the ideal spot is the SEC.  Dream on eyyyy. But football remains our impediment.  They screwed round and did not upgrade nippert worn out stadium...or better yet, deck it and go new.  The lack of comparative athletic dept budget here has also hurt.  I read a rumor that all hell could break lose if the ACC starts crumbling.  UC is suppose to be on a short list backed by wvu.  Big 12 is after fla st, NC and VaTech....then UC falls in there.  The Big E is kaput, ACC is possible to go down next.  All in the sake of football TV cash.

Re: OT - College Conference Money Hunt

While football and TV markets are a big driver in the conference changes, underlying themes are the oppressive NCAA, scheduling problems with the 12 game schedule and BCS baloney.

Since the move to 12 games, the larger schools are now over the barrel somewhat when trying to schedule the smaller schools and both parties know it. Once the four super conferences occur, teams will be able to schedule an all big school schedule if they want as it won't hurt them in the hunt for the National title. There will be a four team playoff of the Conference champs and a true National Champ will be named.

UC better hope they get one of the brass rings.

Re: OT - College Conference Money Hunt

UC's in trouble right now but I think they'll be alright once the dust settles.  It may take a few years, but there will be 4 major regional conferences, and a good national conference of what's left.  Cincy will be in the national conference if not a regional conference by then.
